The King of the Portal. With the creation of B, 20 years ago, the Clock Crew was formed. They would spam the Portal yes, but through the Clock Crew many talented creators came to be. It brought a sense of community on Newgrounds to further their skills. It would spawn duplicates as well all combining animators, musicians, developers, and artists together. The Lock Legion, The Star Syndicate, The Kitty Krew, The Soup Squad. Have all spammed the Portal and created better Newgrounds members as well. The Clock Crew was the first, and StrawberryClock helped bring in more creators and showed the freedoms that Newgrounds offers compared to other sites for the time and especially today.

I'm gonna link The Scale of the Universe here as well due to the impact it made. Scale of the Universe 2 however is updated to include more of the universe. To the part of space we can no longer see all the way down to the smallest level that we can't measure. It is amazing to go through this and click on each piece. You garner knowledge on biology, zoology, chemistry, and culture. @Fotoshop gave us a great treat with this. It's a shame we haven't seen newer works from him since this. Our King of the Portal StrawberryClock once tried to climb to the top of the tallest mountain he could find. Here's what he had to say during his expedition:

Dwarfinator later restored duck.fla by replacing the SWF of one of his older Flashes (as seen above), so you can still learn its true significance.

CLOCK COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT HENTAI MEANS

One day, a clock (who we won't name due to embarassment) was about to watch a clock movie (again not naming in order to not embarass them), and saw one of the tags that said 'hentai'. Unbeknownst to them, there was no hentai, it was a live performance of some metal music.

"I swear I didn't know what they were talking about. Next time I hung around with my friends, one of them asked if we were going to watch some hentai together. I accepted, still thinking it meant what I saw in that flash. No it didn't, I got the shock of my life and immediately broke into tears.

You know what? I actually feel better about it now. Here's the movie."

CabbageClock admits to have ordered at least two sharks a week, even though he knows full well how cruel the industry can be. "I had come up with the idea because I believed it could be a big viral hit and because I'm a huge fan of the graphic novel and kids shows from 15-25 years ago, however this time round I decided I didn't want to sell the animation and so I maintained the rights out of choice. The experience was pretty damn tiresome, I churned the thing out in about 3 weeks, song and all. I'm glad people got a kick out of it."

How To Find your first paid project

I wanted to spend this part of Forum History to present a cautionary tale. Newgrounds is one of the most welcoming communities for creators on the Internet. There are a lot of freedoms and people to help you out on your journey to hone your skills, polish your craft, make friends, and build your reputation. It has helped launched many creators that go on to do amazing things outside of Newgrounds. @Egoraptor, the creator of the Awesome Series and renowned animator and voice actor. @Jenjamik, an artist and animator known for Link's Barrel Beat. He would go on to do the animation for the game Cuphead. @Jazza, artist, musician, animator, voice actor, and singer. Known for the PALADIN series here on Newgrounds. He would go on to make a name for himself on YouTube with his Draw With Jazza series. This is just a small fraction.

Each of these people would help other creators on the site. If there was a question in a respective forum. If they got a message. They would answer it. They would leave reviews and give honest feedback and help when and where they could. Many others on this site will do the same. All, without asking for any money. I say this because of this thread.

@mrjeffferson came onto Newgrounds with this thread. He was offering to help people find their first paid project and in return you would pay a small sign up fee. This seemed suspicious to a number of musicians on the site due to him having no music posted on Newgrounds and not much music posted outside of Newgrounds. Some pointed out that he came off more as an agent. He said he wasn't an agent, but was instead offering techniques that would help you. He was preaching himself as a mentor.

@ZipZipper was the first to dress down the OP. It was @samulis who would bury the OP. It is quite the wall of text so I will leave you with appropriate links. Take caution with you. We have people who wish to swoop into Newgrounds a gain a buck. Some just want your work for nothing so keep that mind with you as well. We are a community and we will help one another when and if we can.

Taking a break? (or not)

Back in 2006 @Egoraptor graced the Internet with Metal Gear Awesome. Something he wanted to work on his voice acting and writing with. It came to inspire countless video game parodies and creators on Newgrounds and beyond.

Well when I was younger I had a lot of self confidence issues (still do), but I always thought the thing I liked to do wasn't what I could make a living out of. I built up enough courage to say, you know what, I think I can make it at this voice acting thing, so I started practicing and doing lines for peoples' cartoons on Newgrounds. I got really addicted to doing a (really bad) Snake impression and I did it for a handful of movies, but then it "dried up" so to speak and I didn't get anymore roles. But I wanted more roles, so I wrote my own script. I wrote it in about 4 or 5 minutes, just banging on the keyboard a bunch of nonsense of how I remember the first hour or so of the game went. I did all the voices and felt satisfied, but for some reason got Kira Buckland to do the voice of Meryl... I guess I just really wanted her to sound feminine and didn't want to use my own voice for her. I think having had her do the voices for me drove me to want to make something out of it, so I mixed it together and trudged through Flash since all my friends were using it. I had no fucking clue what I was doing, but I managed, I guess. I just drew it all bad on purpose 'cause I guess that was the "style" of it, or something. I took a lot of inspiration from Homestar Runner's "The Yellow Dello" because it had a lot of off-model stuff, and I liked that. I thought it was funny. It took me a long time to finish because I kept putting it off, but once I finished it, all my friends urged me to release it on Newgrounds. I was really against it, I thought it would get blammed. It didn't really stack up to any other work on the site I liked, and I thought my humor was a little bit esoteric. Like who the fuck else would think this is funny but me and maybe a handful of other people? But the next day I got an IM, I think it was from Anigen, who told me it was on frontpage, and I was like, uh, what?

Good Morning Newgrounds! For all of my fellow Americans out there I hope you had a fantastic 4th of July! I have been hard at work tweaking the redesign for the paper. It is still a work in progress so if there are some things that you like and don't like be sure to tell me. It is incredible that this paper has been around for an entire year already. Although some weeks have been missed, it has been a growing process. With that said if you're looking to beat the heat then spend it with Newgrounds! We have a Summer Animation Jam going on right now! It is different from others as being a tournament that harkens back to The Tournament of Flash Artists and The Newgrounds Annual Tournament of Animation (TOFA and NATA respectively). A Summer Game Jam is coming up with fundraising happening for it! RWappin is working on a new cartoon show called End Times. The Friday Night Funkin' Animation Jam winners have been announced. @RWappin is working on a full fledged animated show entitled End Times. He doesn't know how he is going to fund this project, he's mainly throwing it out there. It will be a show involving adult themes. Here's a small synopsis of the show to give you an idea.

@BenTibbetts has recently moved to Texas where he is teaching music. If you are looking to use Ben's music unlicensed then you can become a subscriber to his site for $4 a month and have access to the Audio Store. There he has posted a solo harp piece entitled Cloud City.

I have recently changed jobs to another deli, this one being more clean, organized, and well managed. I am quite happy where I am now and no longer wake up with a sense of dread.
