“LOADING…JUST A SEC”

@Dungeonation

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Good Morning Newgrounds! Sorry for the delay on this one. I ended up with a terrible migraine that hindered my workflow. There’s been collaborations, animation jams, a fun comic to read, a blast from the past evolving further, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. This new format is easier to work with, I just need to manage it into my work schedule. On a side note, Game Informer is making a return, with past issues available digitally and in print once again, only this time you don’t need to go to GameStop to get a subscription. Now here are the hip happenings of Newgrounds!

The-Great-One

Since last week was successful, The Tank Tribune is looking to feature the soundtrack from The LAST SODA on Earth: Strange Scavenger by IcyMire32. There are also a selection of other tracks by IcyMire32 included.

“Too Much” Jam Winners!!

@KingCrowned has announced the winners of the “Too Much” Jam. The Tank Tribune will be focusing on the winners. For runner-ups and other information, read KingCrowned’s post in full.

Pass the Page Collab

A game that @Joshua would play with his friends. The game works with an artist given only the page before their page. They can’t see the past comic pages, just the page before theirs. It’s like a game of telephone, but making a comic out of it. This collaboration was done by Joshua and 8 other artists, who are @3rr0r4rtz, @Charlie57913, @Featherwaite, @Greytorr, @guri-gure, @SuperJeffoMan, @TehDoodleware, and @X3NDER. Give it a read this Sunday Morning!

Gretel and Hansel

@makopudding and @DJKingDB the artists behind Gretel and Hansel and Gretel and Hansel Part 2 with music by @mikerudolph and @FEASTofFETUS are coming to Steam with a third entry in the series as one single game this year. Console ports will come in 2026! mikerudolph and FEASTofFETUS are returning to compose for the third entry and are joined by a new composer! If you’re interested in the details then check out the Gretel and Hansel Discord and the Gretel and Hansel Website. Below is just a small sneak peek of Part 3. Check out makopudding’s post for more screenshots.

Be sure to check out Gretel and Hansel Part 1 and Part 2 in this morning’s Sunday Console.

Title Graphic by @Hibachi

Main Art by @PKettles

Back in January of this year @littlbox started a Kickstarter to fund a documentary talking about Newgrounds. This project was started back in 2023. The Kickstarter was a success and the documentary has now entered pre-production. I had the chance to ask littlbox about the documentary and his past filmmaking work.

The-Great-One: This is not your first step into documentary making. When I interviewed you back in 2020, the latest project you were working on was entitled Your Friend Logan. Will you be bringing any techniques of that documentary into this one? What have you learned from making that documentary that you will take with you making the Newgrounds Documentary?

littlbox : Logan was a huge stepping stone for me. I was learning how to put together a feature on the fly, along with the importance of collaboration and organization. Something I wish I had done better was craft a narrative from the get-go and see where it took the film, rather than relying on interviewees to info dump in retrospect, which I feel I did too much of in that film. So, approaching the NG doc, I have a better idea of what story to tell going in.

The other big learning curve was distribution. I went into Logan quite naively expecting the film to premiere at a large festival and get distribution, not realizing the full extent of oversaturation and underbuying occurring in independent film today. As such, I spent some time crash coursing through creative distribution strategies, and am planning on implementing these to ensure that OUATOTI sees a more prompt and better organized release than Logan has been able to achieve.

The-Great-One: Now that the crowdfund has reached its goal, any details you can give us about the documentary? Who will be interviewed? What history will be covered? A chance to see a teaser trailer?

littlbox: We’re currently in pre-production to film the majority of interviews this summer, between May and July, within the US and parts of Canada and the UK. Nearly all Newgrounds staff, past and present, are onboard, along with a number of notable users. I won’t disclose all names, since there are a few choice people we are still in the process of securing, but you can see a selection of our interviewees listed on the Kickstarter campaign, as well as on our Twitter and Instagram.

Our driving narrative is the story of the site’s formation and perseverance through every era of the Internet, in spite of opposing odds, and the ups and downs of the site’s existence and the community. I feel it will be a really good chance to look at these eras of the site and internet culture within the context of their time, and give people a fresh appreciation for what people, mostly kids, were able to, and continue to, achieve within this space.

The closest we have to a teaser at the moment is our Kickstarter campaign trailer. Once we collect the remainder of our interviews and begin post-production, a new teaser will be in the works.

We still haven’t achieved all funding for the film, so once filming is completed, I’ll be reaching out to potential sponsors to round out the remainder of the post-production and distribution budget.

The-Great-One: Will you be looking to any Newgrounds talent to be part of the documentary's production? Composers, animators, voice actors, filmmakers, etc.? If so, is there anybody you have in mind?

littlbox: Absolutely. I worked with several talented NG animators on the Logan documentary, and I would be honored to work with them again on this. Prolific collab organizer and former @FlowDownStream peer @Kolumbo is going to help with organizing animation, and fellow former FDS peer @Sro has offered to help with some of the music. There are a myriad of other users I’d love to have involved, and several talented folks who have reached out to offer their services. This is one of the most important aspects of the doc to me, and I can’t wait to get to a point to bring these users together on this project.

The-Great-One: A Newgrounds Documentary has been brought up before by user @NaKrown back in 2009. It was going to be called Everything By Everyone. He collected donations for it, but ended up bailing on the project. You signed up for Newgrounds 5 years after this. Were you aware of this past effort when looking to start your own documentary take? How can you give confidence to those who remember being shamed in the past?

littlbox: Very much so. If you watch the Kickstarter trailer, you may recognize that the interviews from 2009 that we display and refer to are from this project. These have been very helpful in giving us context of the site from that era and will be used in the final documentary.

I’m not going to claim I’m the most active participant on the site, but I owe a lot to Newgrounds. My creative direction in life and several best friends I can directly tie back to the site. If I can put together an earnest portrait of the site, and its rich history and community, it’s the least I can do to give back.

The-Great-One: Anything you want to say to The Tank Tribune readers?

littlbox: Thanks for reading this! And thank you TGO! I think it's really important to have something like this, so I'm glad you continue to publish these.

On the series A100, @Aalasteir also sat down and spoke to littlbox about his work on the Newgrounds Documentary and the stuff he loves on the site.

The week can get people down sometimes. With all of the hustle and bustle and action packed drama that entails our lives, sometimes it's nice to just kickback and relax. Today we’re looking at the darker Point 'n Click Adventure Games here on Newgrounds.

If a game is not loading properly for you, then install the Newgrounds Flash Player. There are instructions on how to do so. If it is still not working or you don't understand, create a thread in the Where is / How to / Help! Forum for assistance.

I don’t have much of an outro to say here. I’ve been dealing with issues lately. Hopefully it won’t lead to memory issues like before. A simple migraine, I just hope it doesn’t grow into a problem. I’ll keep it short and see you next week.

Oscars - Best Animated Short

This past Academy Awards, the movie Flow won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film and was nominated for Best International Feature Film. It was made entirely in Blender and took over five years to make. In the Shadow of the Cypress won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.

Back in 2009, @TomFulp made an open challenge that anyone who submitted an animated short on Newgrounds that went on to win an Oscar would receive a prize of $10,000 from Newgrounds. If you’re interested in submitting your animation to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences then please comment on this issue of The Tank Tribune and I will update when submissions can be made.

It is wireless and has a 3 month battery and can be placed anywhere. Recently a Newgrounds plug-in was made by a TRMNL contributor. @TomFulp was offered a complimentary TRMNL which he took advantage of and it is displayed in the Newgrounds Office. Check out TRMNL and see if it’s right for your work and life.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Good Morning Newgrounds! The return of The Tank Tribune is here! I have condensed The Tank Tribune down some, one to make it easier on me, and two to have a chance to highlight entries on Newgrounds that tend to slip through the cracks. I am excited to be writing this again, although there is some somber news to report concerning BrandyBuizel and ADR3-N. Things are looking up for both of them though, so that’s nice. I ask that you take the time to read about their plights. If you haven’t been caught up, there has been a redesign with The Tank Tribune and I am eager to hear your feedback. The Best of February was announced. There’s no Newgrounds History to report because I’m still working on it. Shout out to Aalasteir who has been everywhere on Newgrounds doing everything. With that out of the way, here are the hip happenings of Newgrounds!

BrandyBuizel & ADR3-N Fundraisers, Xbox Collab and More!

Both @BrandyBuizel and @ADR3-N are in some tight spots financially right now. He has also been a contributor to the Tankmas ADVENTure, a Triple Crown Winner alongside the team behind Desert-Mayhem: OVERDRIVE, and the Producer of LUCKYBOY. BrandyBuizel has recently lost his job and has complications due to OCD. @Droid has set up a GoFundMe to help out.

After seeing the post, BrandyBuizel asked that Tom include a post to help out ADR3-N. ADR3-N is a Newgrounds Audio Moderator, helping out in the Audio Portal Cleanup thread, and is a proud member of The Elite Guard Barracks. ADR3-N is also in a bind with bills backing up. How to Stop Fantasizing and Start Working?

@TheBestBroster has been in a dilemma lately. He spends more time fantasizing about what he wants to make rather than making it. He has come to the Newgrounds Art Forum for advice. @Eldritchsaxes and @Azk0 have similar problems.

@Drimager has a fear of making the final piece look bad. His solution has been drawing thumbnail sketches. Since they’re quick to make, if something doesn’t turn out right he can toss it and draw another one. If one turns out well, it helps him to see the finalized piece.

@Skoops has mentioned discipline, techniques to just start and keep going. Your brain will naturally adapt to enjoying what you create and want to do it again and again. Develop an unbroken routine.

There are other pieces of advice. If you’re having trouble getting started with your creative efforts, check it out. If you’re already an artist and have a system or advice, then share it in the thread.

@Bleak-Creep has questioned why the Newgrounds Annual Tournament of Animation has gone quiet over the past decade. She has also considered reviving the contest. Last bit of news on this revival was back in January. If any news comes up, The Tank Tribune will report on it.

SUPPORTERS OF THE WEEK

@BrandyBuizel and @ADR3-N

If you read the Blogosphere part of this post, then you have noticed that BrandyBuizel and ADR3-N have been going through some financial difficulties. They have done a lot for Newgrounds, from hosting events, meet-ups, Jams, and contests. They have brought Newgrounds together in multiple ways and still do to this day. They are truly amazing members and Supporters of the site.

This is a Newgrounds Supporter only feature. If you want to know what kind of things are featured then check out the Takeover Tuesday Discussion Thread.

The week can get people down sometimes. With all of the hustle and bustle and action packed drama that entails our lives, sometimes it's nice to just kickback and relax. This week we're taking a look at the three games made by @FutureCopLGF here on Newgrounds!

If a game is not loading properly for you, then install the Newgrounds Flash Player. There are instructions on how to do so. If it is still not working or you don't understand, create a thread in the Where is / How to / Help! Forum for assistance.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding in terms of The Tank Tribune. I’ve had a lot going on in my personal life. Both good and bad things. I won’t dull you with the details though. Rex says hi. I’m really trying to get him to share his art here on Newgrounds for all of you to see. I’ve been putting a lot of work in The Tank Tribune whenever I have a spare moment. Thankfully things have been getting back on track, so I’m able to put more focus back onto Newgrounds. Some of my friends are offering ideas of streaming on Twitch different aspects of Newgrounds. Which honestly is something Tom used to do, Newgrounds Broadcasts where he would browse the site, watch movies, play games, and enjoy the works people would bring to his site. I haven’t made the jump to that yet because I have enough plates spinning as it is, I haven’t ruled it out yet either. I’ll see you all next week!

"INSERT YOUR TAGLINE HERE - SUPPORTER FEATURE ONLY"

@TheTankTribune

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Good Morning Newgrounds! Welcome to The Tank Tribune! The Official Newspaper of Newgrounds! For those of you wondering, this isn't an official issue, that will premiere next week. This is just to show off the new format for the Tribune. In the past, my main focus was simply news, through news posts, some threads, and the NG News that Tom would post. There would be some highlighted features from the Portals, but not much. I wanted to change that. One, because not all news posts have a lot to share and to write an article on becomes taxing to say the least, and Two, because a lot people here speak through their works - not their news posts. I want to shine a light on a lot of Newgrounds content. This isn't just a place for creative people to make their works, build portfolios, and expand their circle of friends. It is also a place where the everyday user comes to enjoy music, animation, art, and play games. The fan and user experience is just as important as those who bring their works to the site. I am hoping to make changes in that stride, and this is the best way I can do that. Now, let's see how things have moved around or changed.

The-Great-One

iu_1366159_8044563.png

Don't bother clicking the link above, it won't link to a Sunday Phonograph. Does look nice though. For those who have been around the site for a long time, this is probably quite the blast from the past. I wanted something like an album cover to represent the Sunday Phonograph. I am looking to possibly expand this going forward, but for now, this is the new icon for the Sunday Phonograph. Upcoming Composers will also still be posted to my Patreon, so you will be able to see who will be part of Sunday Phonograph the following week if you're a SUPPORTER tier or higher.

The Phonograph will now feature 30 songs in it going forward instead of the usual 20 songs. The Intro and Outro will still be Paper Dragon by @sorohanro though. Special thanks to him for allowing me to still use that song to this day.

iu_1366158_8044563.png

iu_1366160_8044563.png

The Tank Tribune used to have the news split up into three sections. General News was anything Newgrounds related from Tom or really big news in general. Artist News was strictly news from the creators of Newgrounds. Community News was news from the fans of Newgrounds. Now, they will all be encompassed into one section. Called the Blogosphere, named after the archive started by @gumOnShoe. Every news story from Newgrounds will be here. From Newgrounds related contests, updates, community notes, etc.

iu_1366161_8044563.png

From @TheInterivewer, to @Aalasteir's A100 series, to @VoicesByCorey's Voices With Corey, and any other podcast in-between. This is where people talk Newgrounds and their projects, life, skills, and passions.

This is also where we examine the works done by Newgrounds members outside of the site, and work done by other creative animators, musicians, game developers, as well. This section change is the one I am most excited about.

iu_1366162_8044563.png

A popular section, the Featured Artist section features an underrated artist whose works have gone under the radar. Typically an artist with less than 1000 fans on the site. This one will remain unchanged for the time being. I would love to expand on it though.

iu_1366163_8044563.png

What used to be called the Flash Portal History, it is time to branch this one out more to the other Portals and Forums. There have been a lot of wonderful moments through Newgrounds History, from beautiful creations, to silly and bizarre, to just down right wrong. Newgrounds has been through many ups and downs and has essentially seen it all from the good, the bad, the ugly, and the why is that even a thing?

iu_1366164_8044563.png

If you're a Newgrounds Supporter, then there are many things that will be featured here. Quotes of the Week and Pic of the Week from the Supporter Party Forum. The Taglines Thread where you can say anything you want at the top of each issue. Plus, The Tank Tribune will be featuring a Takeover Tuesday playlist from a Supporter as well as highlighting some submissions from Takeover Tuesday.

iu_1366165_8044563.png

A staple of The Tank Tribune. Been here since the beginning and will continue to be a fixture. Some games to unwind at the end of the work week. My patrons from Patreon may be taking it over from time to time though.

That about sums it up. The official relaunch of The Tank Tribune will begin on March 16, 2025 at 6:00AM. If you're under the PRODUCER tier of my Patreon, then it will be available to you a day later on March 15, 2025 at 6:00AM. Thank you all for reading and supporting The Tank Tribune, and again for your patience during this time. It has been excruciating to say the least. I hope you're looking forward to this as much as I am.

Hello Newgrounds!

Sorry for the prolonged absence. Things have been rough lately and I've been playing catch-up on a lot of projects that I've been working on, so unfortunately The Tank Tribune had to take a back seat for a while. My personal life also has to come first. I had the holidays, a brand new baby niece, spending time with Rex, and a friend moving into their new house. Work was also kicking my ass to the point to where some days I barely had any energy to work on anything.

Rest assured, The Tank Tribune will be returning on March 9th, with a new format that I have finally managed to complete. Things have been incredibly hectic lately to the point where I couldn't even be on Newgrounds as much as I would like. I've also been trying to get Rex to make an account on here as well, because he does a lot of cool artwork. We'll see where that goes though.

Glad to be back on Newgrounds! Excited to show all of you what I have in store next week!

So, I've still been working on the new format for The Tank Tribune. I'm gonna have to push back one more week. My apologies for this matter. Internet has been in and out recently in my area due to the aftermath of the hurricane. I've also been needing to catch up on my other projects as well.

I've been toying with a new format for The Tank Tribune, both here and on my Patreon. I'm looking at incorporating Takeover Tuesday and am hoping to merge that with my Patreon going forward. Expect something brand new this coming Saturday and Sunday. Sorry for delaying ya'll for another week.

Everything is fine after the hurricane and the clean-up process for the house is done. The smell that came from the spoiled food in the freezer was certainly a smell for the ages.

Hello Newgrounds.

To make a long story short, I live in South Carolina.

To make a long story long. I live in South Carolina and was affected by Hurricane Helene. I had three trees fall on my house, which thankfully caused zero damage to my house. Got lucky there because my house has two skylights where the trees fell and they all missed.

Unfortunately I had lost power from Friday the 27th until October 3rd. I didn't have Internet until this past Sunday on October 5th, and even then it was pretty spotty. I had no way of working on any Newgrounds material. I had to conserve battery power because my day job still had power, so I had to charge my phone at work. Unfortunately Newgrounds is blocked on the work computer and my work was without Internet as well.

Thankfully power is back on and I have done damage control at home and am now in the process of getting the inside of the house situated as well, because everything in my refrigerator and freezer went bad. I am sorry for the delay in The Tank Tribune.

If you live in the South and was affected by the hurricane, please share your stories below. The Tank Tribune will be returning with a lot of catch up this Sunday, and as on my Patreon on Saturday.

“WHY DO THEY CALL IT NEWSPAPER IF YOU NEWS READ THE OLD WORDS OUT PAPER WRITE THE NEW WORDS?”

@HatNHoodie

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Good Morning Newgrounds! The past two weeks have been exhausting to say the least. I've been working on getting on a better sleep schedule and it has definitely had it affect on it. There has been quite a bit going on with Madness Day right around the corner. It's incredible we've been celebrating Madness Day since 2007! Not only that, the Sketch Collab has been going since 2007 as well and is approaching. The Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch is still ongoing, with the judges coming to their final decisions for Round 2. The Tribune will be featuring podcasts in the interview section of the paper instead of strictly focusing on The Interviewer. I've been working on changes for the paper, looking to expand it and bring in more from my Patreon patrons. Oh, and please stop sending friend requests to The Tank Tribune. This is strictly a project page. If you want to be friends, come to my main account. With all of that out of the way, here are the hip happenings on Newgrounds!

@midgetsausage is hosting the annual Sketch Collab this year. This collab has been going on since 2007. Every year, animators gather together to make short animated segments. The organizer then compiles them together with a song to go in the background. If you want to participate in this traditional collab, then click the pic above! They're accepting entries until November 2nd, 2004.

Best of August 2024!

Newgrounds voted, in the brand new voting system, which splits up the Movies and Games from the Portal and now there are Best of the Month awards for Art and Audio. Not only this, now entries that have won in the Top 5 have Best of the Month trophies on their entry and their trophies page. The Tank Tribune will showcase the Number 1 entry from each Portal!

Best Movie goes to @JamesLee for Fuck the Artists. It also picked up the Daily Feature and Weekly Users' Choice awards. This marks his 10th Best of the Month award! Previous wins include Batman Hates Bronies, Breaking up with Adobe, and DOPAMINE DANCE MAN.

Best Game goes to @rm120 for Dungeon Watchers. This marks their first Best of the Month award. Their game also won the Daily 5th Place.

Best Audio goes to @ZaneLittle for BUNNY³ (Score). It was the score for the movie BUNNY³ by @Jaquin. This movie would give both Jaquin and ZaneLittle a Daily Feature, Weekly Users' Choice, and Monthly 3rd Place. ZaneLittle picked up his 2nd Monthly 3rd Place. His first being for Animation in The Bartman Reanimate Collab.

Best Art goes to @DeimosArt for No Gods, No Masters. This is the first Best of the Month and first overall award for DeimosArt.

Madness Day

The day to celebrate @Krinkels masterpiece, Madness, is next Sunday! We come together for blood, carnage, chaos, and clowns. There will be prizes for Animation, Art, and Music. If you want to donate to the prize pool then click here, make your Donation and PM Tom to let him know that you have donated that amount to the Madness Day prize pool. If you're looking to submit something for Madness Day, then follow the rules and guidelines below.

Submission rules/guidelines;

  • We can only regard entries submitted on SEP 22 through the end of SEP 23 at the very LATEST. That's a 48 hour window but I have to implore that you land it on SEP 22 to be easier to find and showcase. Things tend to get lost in the chaos and arriving late makes it rough.
  • In the event of a collab placing, all winnings will be sent to the collab organizer for them to distribute as they see fit.
  • Music submissions can only be judged as individual songs. Soundscapes or Albums should be parsed/broken down into their individual tracks so that judging can be done on a individual basis.
  • All winnings will be distributed via PayPal.
  • In order for us to find you, please tag your submission with #MadnessDay2024, this is very important!
  • YOWO - You Only Win Once. A person can post multiple entries across every category, but can only win placement once.
  • It should go without saying, but just in case; post it here on Newgrounds!

Ruffle & Flash Preservation Update

There have been a lot of updates to Ruffle that you can read about here. Newgrounds has been using Ruffle to run Flash games on the site, with the death of Flash in 2020. Originally made by Newgrounds own @mike, multiple developers have been hard at work to help the preservation of Flash. You can help support Ruffle here.

If you can't make a donation towards Ruffle, you can help out on Newgrounds by being a part of the Ruffle Testing / Flash Preservation Crew.

Ruffle ensures that we preserve the history of Newgrounds, without it, the Sunday Console on The Tank Tribune wouldn't be as awesome as it is. We wouldn't have the Flash Forward Jam. There would be a lot of cool movies that you wouldn't be able to watch anymore. Not only does this benefit Newgrounds, but other surviving Flash sites that you have visited in the past.

@DrSevenSeizeMD has been in and out of the hospital due to multiple surgeries. This time a large mass was taken from her thyroid. She's been on paid medication, but it hasn't been working, excepting making her high without dealing with the pain. She intends on telling people she got into a knife fight with Tom. Whether her story ends with her winning or losing will probably depend on her audience. Send some love her way.

September has been a busy month for me lately. My little brother's birthday is this month, and both of Rex's older brothers birthdays are in September as well. It is a lot to take in. Which my little brother and his wife are having a baby girl. I will be an Uncle to my new niece! Believe me, this gay uncle is ready to hold the fanciest tea party imaginable! I don't have much else to say here, life has been going pretty well, except for the sleep patterns, combining that with the day job, and too many projects on my plate once again. Shout out to @Skoops for his patience.
