NG Tanktober : Info thread

@WonderSchwifty is hosting the Newgrounds Tanktober in the Art Forum with a prompt list. There are 31 prompts for submissions. I reached out to WonderSchwifty for more information.

So the idea behind Tanktober, was when I just started school and the Inktober controversy was very fresh.

At the time, I had not done the Inktober challenge for two years due to having endless ammounts of assignments to do and when I found about this contreversy and everyone making thier own version due to a lot of gatekeeping, I decided to make an NG/Inspired one.

I really wanted to contribute to the community since I haven't been able to animate or do a lot this summer and making an newgrounds inspired inktober was really fun while being tired at the same time (timezones and such, I wake up early than everyone else).

So I told Tom first about the idea, started it two/three weeks before and then talked with a few members of the NGP Crew who both were very supportive of this idea. Then I decided to do this playlist were a bunch of classics, both old, new and creepy in general, watch them, write down the prompts in one night, talk to the NGP Crew, send it back to Tom and posted the info thread, pinned in the art fourms, thanks to asking Staff and some help of it under the radar.

Some where asking due to being interested and I explain while mean while doing the prompts and projects in the background.

WonderSchwifty also wanted to give thanks to @Xinxinix, @GoodL, @willKMR, and @TomFulp for their support on this event.

At first, I wanted it to be focused mainly on NG charathers and such but after the reconsideration, I was done to go. This is my first contributed event I have ever done on NG since a lot of members have done jams and collabs, me being skeptical of "don't y'all have school or collage etc, why are you like busy on this," and being a bit toxic in general. Which I was wrong of and apologized. So in order to cheer up, I did this. Plus drawing for a month makes me improve alot and I think it also helps the communtiy in general even tho it was psoted under peoples radar. I just hope alot of people would see this and not let it slip.

RECIPES FROM THE NEWGROUNDS COMMUNITY

Welcome back to the Newgrounds Kitchen! Today we have something a bit spicier. Some badass fajitas from @AcidX. There was no proper recipe so it has been put into a recipe format to the best of the Tribune's ability.

AcidX's Chicken Fajitas

Here is some chicken fajitas I done in a pan.

INGREDIENTS

Shredded chicken
Chili powder
Black pepper
Salt flakes
Smoked paprika
Ground cumin
Oregano
Smoke seasoning (liquid smoke optional)
Green and Red bell peppers
Onions
Oil
Soy sauce
Honey
Lime juice

STEP 1: Coat your peppers and chicken with oil and a dash of soy sauce.

STEP 2: Apply the chili powder, black pepper, salt flakes, smoked paprika, salt flakes, ground cumin, oregano, and smoke seasoning.

STEP 3: Cook them in an oven on medium-high heat. Douse with honey halfway through.

STEP 4: In a separate pan add your onions with salt and sweat them until they are sautéed.

STEP 5: Once your chicken and peppers are done add them to the pan and splash them with lime juice at the end.

STEP 6: Serve with salsa, in a wrap. Hot sauce optional.

The week can get people down sometimes. With all of the hustle and bustle and action packed drama that entails our lives, sometimes it's nice to just kickback and relax.

This has been quite a week and it has taken its toll on me physically and mentally. My day job last week did a number on my body. I have a new crew though so things should be getting easier as days go by. Since I found a way to streamline the Tribune, writing it has become easier throughout the week. What used to take me two to three hours to put together now only takes me one hour. If you liked the tagline at the top of the paper don't forget to share yours in the Tagline Thread. The Portal

There wouldn't be any Flash Portal History, there would be no Audio Portal, there would probably wouldn't be much of the Internet if it wasn't for the automated Portal. Released back in 1999, it was a place for Tom to share his own creations. He started to highlight other works on it. The submissions became overwhelming though and so he alongside with @Ross, developed an automated Portal so people could submit their own works in 2000. It has been the foundation for Newgrounds ever since.

RECIPES FROM THE NEWGROUNDS COMMUNITY

Welcome back to the Newgrounds Kitchen! Today we have another sweet treat for all of you for this festive season. Some Pumpkin Cheesecake Snickerdoodles courtesy of @LadyJava!

Pumpkin Cheesecake Snickerdoodles

Here is something I found looks yummy.

INGREDIENTS

3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. freshly-ground ground nutmeg
1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
3/4 cup pumpkin puree
1 large egg
2 tsp. vanilla extract

FILLING INGREDIENTS

8 ounces pumpkin spice cream cheese

CINNAMON SUGAR COATING

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
Dash of allspice

STEP 1: In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg together. Set aside.

In a kitchenaid mixer with a paddle attachment, beat together the butter and sugars on medium high speed until fluffy about 2-3 minutes.

STEP 2: Blend in pumpkin puree, beat in egg and then add vanilla. Slowly add dry ingredients on low speed just until combined. Cover and chill dough for an hour.

STEP 3: Preheat oven to 350 and line your baking sheets with parchment paper. In a small bowl; mix sugar and spices for the coating and set aside.

STEP 4: To make the cookies, take a tablespoon of the cookie batter. Flatten it like a pancake and place a teaspoon of the cream cheese in center. Form another tablespoon of the cookie batter into a flat pancake shape and place on top of the cream cheese. Pinch the edges together sealing in the cream cheese and roll into a ball. Roll in the cinnamon sugar coating and place on the prepared baking sheet 2 inches apart.

STEP 5: Repeat until the dough is gone and flatten the cookie dough balls with a heavy bottomed glass or measuring cup.

STEP 6: Bake the cookies for 10-15 minutes or until the tops start to crack. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes and transfer to a wire rack. Enjoy!

FOOTNOTE: If you cant find the pumpkin spice cream cheese, make the cream cheese filling, by blending 8 oz cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons vanilla together. Chill for an hour.

An advertisement campaign to run ads on the site will be in motion. It was originally slated to start last week, but it was postponed and then cancelled for the upcoming Halloween celebrations. @New999 has started a collaboration project to reanimate the Bubsy animated series pilot from the 90s. Originally started by Bubsy fans, it has now been made an open project for others to join in. The deadline for this is November 24. It is also strict because it will be launching on Twitch on the 25th and be ready for Newgrounds on the 26th.

RECIPES FROM THE NEWGROUNDS COMMUNITY

Welcome back to the Newgrounds Kitchen. If you haven't made breakfast yet, I've got one for you, courtesy of yours truly. It the recipe for my homemade pancakes! I hope you enjoy them!

The-Great-One's Griddle Cakes

I have tinkered with this recipe for years and finally got it to a point that I am proud of. They can be a nice hearty breakfast to start the day if you're into carb loading. Even as a nice dessert if you mix in about 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips and serve with ice cream.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup bread flour
1 cup sifted buckwheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon Kosher salt
2 cups whole fat buttermilk
1 14 oz. can of sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 egg yolks
2 egg whites
1/4 cup melted butter
lard (or Crisco)

STEP 1: In a large bowl place your bread flour, sifted buckwheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk to combine.

STEP 2: In a smaller bowl place your buttermilk, molasses, vanilla extract, and egg yolks. Whisk to combine.

STEP 3: Combine the dry and wet ingredients together adding the melted butter. Stir together until the flour is gone. Do not over mix! If there are lumps in the batter that's fine.

STEP 4: Beat your egg whites until you have stiff peaks. Fold them gently into your batter until you can't see the white anymore. Make sure you don't over mix the lumps out.

STEP 5: Let your batter rest for 10 minutes. While the batter is resting, set your pan over medium heat on the stove or between 350-375 degrees if you're using an electric griddle of electric frying pan.

STEP 6: Grease your pan using lard about a tablespoon (pan size will vary). Be sure to grease a small ladle as well.

STEP 7: Apply a small round of batter onto the pan and spread it out with the back of the ladle. Let it sit until bubbles start to form and the outside begins to brown. Flip and continue cooking on the other side until the edges begin to brown.

STEP 8: Take this first griddle cake and throw it away.

STEP 9: Repeat STEP 7 skipping STEP 8 until you either have enough griddle cakes or run out of batter, whichever comes first.

STEP 10: Serve with maple syrup, fresh fruit, whipped cream, bacon, or all of the above if you're into that sort of thing (I won't judge you).

FOOTNOTE: If you like fruit or bacon in your pancakes. Once you spread your batter out in STEP 7 add your pancake innards here before you flip.

For today's Madness Day I thought we would go with something economical, something that can be made with little to no hassle. Something that Hank could make, eat fast, and get back into the action! Our recipe comes from @FUNKbrs, the Man Bowl.

Man Bowl

Man bowl NGer. Man Bowl. Da fuck is a Man Bowl you say? NGer, check this out: You got a microwave. Like at work, or a dorm room. No stove required. You get one large ceramic bowl, like you'd use to put salad it. The bigger the better, because you're going to be boiling water in this bitch, and you don't want it to overflow. We're about to microwave an entire fucking chicken pasta dinner.

INGREDIENTS

Egg noodles
1 can of diced tomatoes
1 small can mushrooms
a couple of spoonfuls of olives
Frozen boneless, skinless, chicken breast tenders
Bacon (optional)
two spoon fulls garlic powder
one spoon full cumin
one spoon full turmeric
one spoon full Italian seasoning
half a spoon full cayenne pepper
1-2 dashes of balsamic vinegar or olive oil

STEP 1: Fill the bowl about halfway up with eggnoodles. We're keeping this economic, to save beer money. Man priorities.

STEP 2: We're keeping it healthy up in this bitch, but we ain't got time for choppin' and cuttin'. Put in at least a whole can of diced tomatoes. A small can of mushrooms or a couple spoonfuls of olives can spice this up, but aren't strictly necessary. We can take this to the next level if you want to. This is a Man Bowl. We can take this as far as you wanna go bro. But over fill this bowl and see what happens bro. This pasta is getting steamed by these moist ass veggies. Do you know what's gonna happen after that? Do you? BRO? MANBOWL.

STEP 3: I'm not saying you can't use bacon. You can. You can add bacon after this step. I'm not your fucking mother. But me, I'm a fucking man, and I need pure protein, not sloppy pig lard. Frozen protein, too, because I'm STONE FUCKING COLD. Get some frozen boneless, skinless chicken breast tenders, the freezer bag kind, and lay them across the tomatoes like ducks in a row. They should come up to about even with the top of the bowl. Meat on top, just like the crown of a king. Fucking meat crown for the meat king goddamnit. MANBOWL.

STEP 4: I'm about to put it on you like you've never had it before, right on top of that meat. You ready?

GARLIC POWDER, two spoon fulls at least.
CUMIN one spoon full
TURMERIC one spoon full
ITALIAN SEASONING one spoon full
CAYENNE PEPPER half a spoon full

STEP 5: Now, wash that seasoning down into the bowl with a dash or two of balsamic vinegar. If you're going to lay bacon strips on them breasts, now's the time. Then, drizzle just a hint of olive oil over the top. Oil those breast up good, fuck yeah baby, do it... GET YOUR DICK OUT OF THERE IT'S FUCKING COLD.

STEP 6: Microwave for 15 minutes. On a paper plate to catch over flows if you're a bitch.

STEP 7: TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD. Your shits done, you wasted minimal time, probably rubbed one out, maybe got your ass handed to you playing some FPS. MANBOWL.

This special edition is not for kicking back and relaxing. It is time to get the adrenaline pumping! Get out there and kick some ass in these Madness Games! If you want to chill though, there is a Madness Day character creator.

With Madness Day approaching, I thought it would be nice to look back at one of the most popular and anticipated series for Madness Day, Dawn of the Madness from @LittleLuckyLink. The series took a short hiatus, but it appears to be continuing with a new entry coming out this Madness Day!

"The summer of 2008 was actually a very important time for me. There were many things going on with my personal life at the time, and I guess you could say it was a bit of a "reawakening" for me creatively. Before and during that summer, I had taken a huge interest in zombie movies. The 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead and the Resident Evil movies caught my interest in particular. The movie went through many different changes early on in production. For instance, some of the art, including the zombies, was changed and recreated with the help of a great friend of mine."

RECIPES FROM THE NEWGROUNDS COMMUNITY

Welcome back to the Newgrounds Kitchen! Today's recipe comes from the NG Club for Cooks, Bakers & Eaters. It is a recipe for banana bread. It's not your everyday bread though. We're getting nutty and we're getting liquored with this recipe courtesy of @Porkchop!

Bourbon Banana Nut Bread

Today, all the way from this liquor store that I got fantastic booze at, it's some motherfuckin Bourbon Banana Nut Bread. Alright, you're gonna need some ingredients. Not just any ingredients, but just about all of these ingredients. YOU WILL ALSO NEED a 9x5 loaf pan. Aside from that, if you got an oven, you're solid.

INGREDIENTS

2 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 ½ cups mashed ripe bananas (from about 3 bananas)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
3 tablespoons bourbon
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chunks

STEP 1: Alright, first up. Preheat your shit. Go ahead and grease and flour that loaf pan. I used about 1/2 tbsp of flour for this, but whatever works for you. Set that shit aside and get to work.

STEP 2: Sift up your flour, salt and baking powder together and set that aside too. Mash up your bananas and set it aside.

STEP 3: Hopefully by now your butter is all soft, otherwise this step sucks muchly of the cock. Take your sugar and butter and cream that shit together. You'll want it nice and fluffy and mixed up nicely. With nice, soft butter, should take about 5 minutes, much like sex with your mom.

STEP 4: Now you've got some creamy butter jizz shit, add 1 egg. Mix that shit up. Now you've got some creamy butter egg jizz shit, add the other egg and mix that shit up. You should have something that kinda looks like sugar, butter and eggs. Take your banana goop, lemon juice, and bourbon and toss it all in. Get it all stirred up nicely and take a shot.

STEP 5: Now, you'll wanna add the flour concoction all at once to the jizz mixture. Otherwise you'll work the batter too much and it will come out a bit more drier than desirable. Once you get that shit all up in there, add your nuts and chocolate chips to it and casually fold them in.

STEP 6: Hopefully by now, your oven's done heating up, your batter is all thick and delightful smelling. Toss the batter into that pan that you greased and floured way back in step one and toss that bitch in the oven for about an hour. Right around here, the prophecy gets a little murky and vague, but all data suggests that the optimal time for removal is once a toothpick comes out clean in the center.

This was quite a big issue music wise, and I felt it was deserving to give one of Newgrounds most giving member a place in the spotlight. To make sure it wasn't too much on one person though I decided to feature two different artists though. It is always amazing that this site not only brings together so many talented and skillful creators, but they all have their own stories to tell and their own trials. Good Morning Newgrounds! For all the American readers Happy Patriot Day! There have been amazing acts of kindness, support from the community as a whole, and it started reminding me of how this site has come together over the years to produce some of the greatest talents and incredible creators we have ever seen. This week I wanted to dedicate more to the users and the community by acknowledging one of Newgrounds longest standing users and greatest Newgrounds Supporter, your Dad and mine, Fro. I also wanted to talk about The Tank Awards, where we honored the animators, developers, musicians, and people who make Newgrounds a happening place. He is also co-host of The Dom and Fro Show, a podcast series here on Newgrounds! His ultimate goal though is to find anyway he can support the site and its user base. Recenlty user ForNoReason had his laptop and recording equipment stolen. Fro not only set-up a GoFundMe to help ForNoReason have his stuff replaced, but he donated to it himself. Last week's Flash Portal History choice got me to thinking about The Tank Awards. For six years, Newgrounds gave out awards for the Best Movie, Best Game, Best Musician, and Best User. Each submission that was nominated either chosen directly or won Best of the Month throughout the year. This week we highlight the different movies that won Best Movie. RECIPES FROM THE NEWGROUNDS COMMUNITY

Welcome to the newest section of The Tank Tribune, the Newgrounds Kitchen! Where we will share recipes from many of Newgrounds members. To start this off is a recipe from Newgrounds Cooking show created by @agro23 entitled Deep Fried Live. In that episode there are also recipes for a martini and Black & Tan Cookies.

Tako Chip Cookies

Included in this recipe are several items with deserve further scrutiny. Cocoa nibs are the edible part of the cacao bean, and the source material for all forms of chocolate. Used in their raw state, they add a powerful bitter-chocolate flavor and a nice crunch. If you don't like crunchy cookies, get rid of the nibs. If you're unable to find a nice fine grain sea salt, kosher salt will work fine. DO NOT, however, substitute all-purpose flour for the cake flour. You'll be sorry if you do.

INGREDIENTS

1 stick (8 Tbsp) unsalted butter
1 cup of brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup cake flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp sea salt (fine grain)
1/2 tsp fresh grated nutmeg (to taste)
8-9 oz (1.25-1.5 cup) chocolate chips
1/4 cup cocoa nibs

STEP 1: Preheat oven to 365. In a standup mixer with the pastry paddle, cream the butter. Add the brown sugar and cream until smooth. Mix in the egg and vanilla until smooth.

STEP 2: Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into the wet mixture. (Note: It is very important to use cake flour, not all purpose flour.) Grate the nutmeg into the bowl and mix until smooth.

STEP 3: Add chocolate chips and cocoa nibs, then fold with a rubber spatula until even. Cover two baking sheets with parchment paper, then spoon out the batter in tablespoon dollops. Bake for 7-8 minutes, or until the edges turn brown (best to watch them closely at the end).

STEP 4: Remove, cool, eat. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen.

Halloween 2020

@ClockworkPixel and @FraserMcNiven are currently working on a project for this year's Halloween. It looks like the title is going to be The Magician & The Mother. I reached out to ClockworkPixel for further comment on the project. I was also given some exclusive character design to show off.

"We were inspired by the posters of magicians and illusionists of the early 20th century, Taking ideas conjured up from those images and mixing it with an exaggerated style from 90's animation.

Whenever we start a short we throw everything at it to see what sticks. With Newgrounds being a place to share ideas and get instant feedback, I always want to experiment with animation to see what does and doesn't work.

We also work full time as animators so being able to animate our own projects instead of commercial work means we can really let loose and really get crazy!

Seeing the reaction to last years 'The Chaos Signals' we want to step up our game in terms of animation and story telling and hope we can leave people pleasantly surprised when it's released in October."

STORIES

@BasiatordeCoronatus has some ideas to help prevent cheating in contests. Such as rotating themes. It helps prevent musicians from using Works-In-Progress for their contest entry. @Troisnyx has brought up that metadata and other variables can be used to help prevent this or at least put it to a halt during the judging phase. @NekoMika has made notes that contests are handled on good faith for the competitors. Any sense of cheating will result in barring from future competitions is an idea tossed around as well.

So Inktober May Have Plagiarized

@EpithetSoup has brought up a theory that the creator of Inktober possibly copied his book from another author. The event as a whole is now being discussed on whether or not this taint will diminish its value in the art community going forward. If you're an artist, join in on the discussion.

With the resurgence of Foamy the Squirrel, Movie Playlists and more work being done on Ruffle. Tom has announced that movies can be watched in the search function now and can be played through playlists. It is all a part of Ruffle which @Mike has been working on. An emulator for Flash so that all of Newgrounds history can be preserved when Flash his shutdown in December of this year.

The series first made its debut on Newgrounds, became a viral sensation and eventually took YouTube by storm! Newgrounds may not be the viral entertainment platform today, but it still serves as a launching point for a lot of talented creators on the Internet and beyond!

Sorry if this issue seemed a little phoned in. It kind of was. Work has been hell these past two weeks, so I'm hoping to get back on track soon. I've actually scheduled two days off of work to hopefully have a lot of Newgrounds stuff done. In fact starting 12:00 AM EST on September 2nd, I will be celebrating my 14 Years on Newgrounds by spending 24 Hours on Newgrounds! I will also be doing a face reveal. In the meantime though, I am constantly on the grindstone and it is becoming a bit more difficult to manage my time efficiently. Sorry for the delays and absences. Shit just happens sometimes.

Happy Clock Day everybody! It's been 19 years since I decided to submit a single frame flash movie and Newgrounds would never be the same. I never imagined people would care about something like this nearly two decades later, but here we are! It's 2020 and there's plenty of clocks still making Clock movies, including one from myself! Since it's Clock Day, expect a lot of Clock movies in the portal from both new and old members. I don't have much else to say, except if you want to make animation, just make it! Even if you think you'll be the only one who'll enjoy it. Make what YOU want to make!

Today is Clock Day, so of course we have to celebrate the movie that started it all. If you can even call it a movie. It was just an off center static red letter B. That's it. Nothing more. Nothing less. It is amazing how this could cause so much outrage among some and hilarity among others back in 2001. It did though. It was uploaded on August 15, 2001. And since then we celebrate every August 15th as Clock Day in celebration of this movie and The Clock Crew!

"The idea was to submit the entire alphabet one flash movie at a time and see how people would react. I expected every single one to get blammed, but the surprising success of 'B' changed my plans."

I'm proud to be part of its history for strangest of reasons, but as far as I'm concerned the history of Newgrounds, what's being produced now and what the future holds is massive. It really is, 'Everything by Everyone'.
