@ForNoReason is a well-known voice actor here on Newgrounds. He made a mockery of voice acting demos that were flooding the site at the time. @scottmale24, who we last saw in Issue NO. 6 for Epic Quest! The NG Choose-Your-Own MSPaint Adventure! and Issue NO. 55 for How I Buy Petrol?, decided to animate ForNoReason's demo. He called it Six Minutes of Nothing.

"I made that demo in sort of a response to TomaMoto's demo from the time. His was brilliant! It was beautifully produced, well acted and just a classic to this day. I had no skills and no talent so I was trying to be silly ironic counter culture to his. I think scottmale24 messaged me on Newgrounds telling me after he posted it. I watched it like a hundred times. Seeing my work animated like that brought tears to my eyes. I still love it. Im still so humbled by it. Two creators who have helped me the most are probably scottmale24 and Carbonwater. I know there are more, and ill probably have someone angry at me, but those guys are the best."

"Back in 2005 I did a movie called Bitchin' Camaro, and since then I've been dying to animate something like that again. One lonely night back in March I had been browsing the Audio Portal for one reason or another (or For No Reason?) and I came across ForNoReason's submission A Voice Acting Demo? I loved his awkward charm, gave it a pretty generic review, and then completely forgot about it. It took me another five months to put two and two together, and I decided to make good on my promise of producing "a long, bland flash movie". It was a complete surprise to him. I think he enjoyed it."

RIP Oliver

@Fim has given us some sad news. Newgrounds user Oliver has recently passed away due to cancer. Oliver has been part of Newgrounds since 2007. He attended Newgrounds meets and was a fixture on the Newgrounds Forums. It is a sad day. He started a fundraiser to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. If you can make a donation to help out, then please do. Which if there are any Newgrounds members you haven't spoken to in a while. Check in on them. Remember this, you are never promised tomorrow.

Good Morning Newgrounds! As you have read above, we have lost a member of our community. Oliver was a user who I have crossed paths with before. I unfortunately never knew him personally. Loss here is something that hits pretty heavy on a lot of users, no matter how close or apart you are. It is important to value one another for not only our talents and skills, but for our friendships and kindness. We have people who don't care for Madness Day, Clock Day, or Robot Day. Pico Day though, brings us all together. It is sad that Oliver didn't get to experience that day with us. I don't have too much more to say than that.

The Newgrounds Audio DeathMatch 2022

The Newgrounds Audio DeathMatch is well underway. The Audition Round is open to Newgrounds musicians here on the site! If you want to audition, just go to the Audition Round Thread and post your song! The rules for the Audition Round are below.

What is the DeathMatch?

The NGADM is one of Newgrounds biggest contests. It is where musicians are put against one another in head-to-head competition, tournament style. There is an audition phase where you post one piece of your work to represent yourself to see if you make the cut to Round 1. This year though there is the addition of a Loser's Bracket, so if you get knocked out early, you can climb your way back up!

You may submit any covers, mashups, remixes, VIPs, loops, or any work started before the beginning of the round.
You are not allowed to submit anything that is considered a MIDI rip and/or stolen song, as per the Audio Portal Guidelines: Audio Guidelines

Back in 2015, @Aaron-Long would give us a new series on Newgrounds. The adventures of the mascots of Subpar, Sublo & Tangy Mustard. This series shows a realist point of view and tends to hit way too close to home on certain matters.

"After I moved to LA I didn't make a personal short for a couple of years but I was brainstorming ideas for them. I had plans to do more Fester Fish but I also wanted to do something that wasn't a pastiche of existing stuff, something more inspired by my own life in Toronto with my friends in my early twenties. I put a lot of my own personal experiences into it and the mascot suit idea was just sort of a gimmick so that the two protagonists were visually interesting and that it wasn't just a totally self-indulgent autobio project. Season 1 was written as six episodes but ended up just being the first 4, which we recorded in 2015. Then season 2/episodes 5-15 were written and recorded in 2017, and I'm only just finished that batch now! Yes I do want to make a season 3 and I have a bunch of episode ideas, but I'm not sure when it will happen yet. I think I need to take a break from it again (as I did after season 1) and recharge while I focus on my day job."

Back in the debut issue of The Tank Tribune, @VoicesByCorey had a wonderful idea. The debut of the Voice Actor Collaboration! It is now an annual event for the Voice Acting Community here on Newgrounds!

Everybody Loves Raymond! Collab

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the hot game during June. With quarantine keeping a lot of people inside, this gave a lot of Nintendo Switch owners an escape with some nostalgia. @heyopc and @Droid brought together 50 animators to make a collaboration about one villager in particular who was new to this iteration of the Animal Crossing series.

Newgrounds 25th Anniversary

Newgrounds turned 25-Years Old! For Internet age, that is quite the impressive feat. The members of Newgrounds certainly partied for the celebration.

The End of Flash

January 12, 2021, saw the death of Flash. Newgrounds has been working on preservation for years before this moment. A lot of great work has been done, there is still more needed. @GrayAnimations celebrated his 14th Birthday! His projects are going swimmingly with a return of Fatman. He's also writing out the script for Metal Gear SUPER Awesome. Fatman is a passion project of his that he's been working on. Metal Gear SUPER Awesome continues the Metal Gear Awesome Cartoons by @Egoraptor.

"End Times" Pitch

@RWappin is working on a full fledged animated show entitled End Times. He doesn't know how he is going to fund this project, he's mainly throwing it out there. It will be a show involving adult themes. Here's a small synopsis of the show to give you an idea.

"There is a sense of dread in the air as everyone seems to think they are in the End Times- for their own reasons. The forces of darkness are making their move towards total global enslavement, but those who see the “end” as just the edge between their comfort zone and the unknown, will ascend."

A special treat for this anniversary issue. Pico's School was released in 1999. It would later be added to the Newgrounds Portal in 2006. It was about Pico saving his school from a bunch of goth kids who were shooting up the school. Pico would become a Newgrounds icon on the site, even having his own day!

"Part of it is just me being a dick but there are definitely other factors involved. Pico was inspired by Columbine, which happened while I was in college. Columbine was kinda fascinating because the kids were a lot like me and my friends in high school. We listened to the same music, had the same brand of teenage angst. Plus I was a dick and thought it would be an exciting concept that no one had built a game around yet.

In general I felt an obligation to be counter-programming to the content I grew up with, because growing up there was no way to share your content with the world without getting whitewashed by some big media conglomerate first. "Extreme" content doesn't feel as cool now because the web has been around for a while and everyone has gotten it out of their system. Or maybe I'm just old now and worried about what other parents would think if I kept making stuff like that."

I am just going to preface with this word of advice. If you're having trouble with your homework for a project, Newgrounds would be more than helpful to give you tips or advice and help. However, we will not do your homework for you, nor will we help you if you decided to procrastinate. @ActualOccurences was not the first to do this, but he unintentionally made @STEM hit his breaking point.

The week can get people down sometimes. With all of the hustle and bustle and action packed drama that entails our lives, sometimes it's nice to just kickback and relax. This is the Sunday Console. Newgrounds has always been my escape. A proper home where I could always be myself and not have to cave into my family's desires and perceptions. A place for the misfits of the Internet. Cartoon Network is attempting live action shows again. Their reason? Apparently, girls graduate from animation and prefer to see live action sitcoms involving comedy and drama. If you're of the female demographic and like cartoons, you're supposed to grow out of it according to Cartoon Network.

The Newgrounds Audio DeathMatch 2022

It is that time of year again, and The Tank Tribune will be covering the action for the entirety of the contest. The Audition Round has already begun, with the deadline being June 26th. This year the contest is being hosted by last year's winner @LD-W. If you're an established member of the Audio Portal here on Newgrounds, LD-W is looking for judges.

What is the DeathMatch?

The NGADM is one of Newgrounds biggest contests. It is where musicians are put against one another in head-to-head competition, tournament style. There is an audition phase where you post one piece of your work to represent yourself to see if you make the cut to Round 1. This year though there is the addition of a Loser's Bracket, so if you get knocked out early, you can climb your way back up!

AUDITION ROUND RULES

You may submit any covers, mashups, remixes, VIPs, loops, or any work started before the beginning of the round.
You are not allowed to submit anything that is considered a MIDI rip and/or stolen song, as per the Audio Portal Guidelines: Audio Guidelines

There will be cash prizes for the DeathMatch, with the current sponsors being @TomFulp, @olskoo, @Bleak-Creep, and @TeffyD!

This would be the third annual Pico Day and this entry would go on to win 1st Place!

"Kitty Krew was 'ruining' newgrounds in the eyes of many, but in my opinion their presence was welcome. I found their spam delightfully amusing, and their comraderie and their synchronized ability to work together, even if it wasn't for the most productive cause, was something I found very commendable. My goal for House of 1000 Cats was to make something that everybody would like, I wanted the haters of the Kitty Krew to like it but I also wanted the Kitty Krew themselves to enjoy the cartoon. I just wanted something that would bring the whole community together, and to really capture the dynamics of the newgrounds community in 2008."

Good Morning Newgrounds! Welcome to the redesign of The Tank Tribune! I've been tinkering with a redesign for a while now and with @Filiprb releasing the Newgrounds Font, I just had to use it. We have some features from the past making a return to the paper as well as some new additions! One being as you have noticed. We're back on Sundays going forward! The Member's Choice section has been removed, a new addition in the Community section has taken its place. The Sunday Console has returned with games to play! Tom has been jamming to music and rocking on! F-777 has been on fire with music production lately. Tom saw Nine Inch Nails perform! He has seen them perform before and has met Trent Reznor multiple times. Tom also noted that @bob is running the Thirsty Dice website. Mix 'n' Match (Pilot)

@9hammer, the creator of the Solace and Chaotic Heart series, launched a pilot of a new series entitled Mix 'n' Match. He's working on this pilot alongside @PhasmaGORE and @realporter. It was covered as part of P-Bot's Weekly Daily Features when it won a Daily Feature. If you haven't seen it yet or 9hammer's other series, this is the time to check it out!

Back at the beginning of 2009, @Bigfoot3290 would give us a funny sprite animation of Mario trying to destroy the castle in Super Mario World. And failing multiple times. This movie would go on to win the Daily Feature and Weekly 2nd Place. It would spawn two sequels, a spiritual successor, and collaborations from other Newgrounds creators!

Before it became an Internet sensation, Happy Wheels got its start here on Newgrounds as a demo back in September 2010. You choose a racer, and get to the finish line while avoiding obstacles. Hit an obstacle? Your racer will either lose some body parts, externally and/or internally, or be crushed, maimed, and/or destroyed. It was made by @Totaljerkface after a seven-year hiatus from his last game Divine Intervention pt. 1, a game that won him his first Daily Feature and Weekly 2nd Place awards. Although Happy Wheels took home the Daily 5th Place, the full version took the Internet by storm with countless Let's Players torturing themselves with the game and user created levels.

I am a bit thankful that things were a bit quiet on the site last week. I typically work on the paper throughout the week and put it altogether at the end of the week, starting on Friday. Well, that's when I went swimming and when I got sunburnt. I am quite crispy now. I've been recovering, but my arms got the most damage so moving my arms to write was agonizing. The Tank Tribune will be changing next week, so I hope you're ready for that. I've also got some other projects in the wings that I'm working on. One is bringing back June Games. An old project that I did a long time ago that is cringeworthy to look back on in all honesty. I'm looking to remake it and not half-ass it this time. For those of you who like the adult content here on Newgrounds. I've been in talks with Edeshye about a project for said fans. That's a secret right now though that will only be shared on my Patreon during the developmental stages. Since people keep following my main page, I will have something going on there as well. We have had some updates to the site. milkypossum is on Spotify. There has been discussion and work being done with NFTs. A new reanimation collab is open, this time for Animaniacs. Sprite animation was pretty big on Newgrounds from 2004-2009. The last sprite series we talked about on here was the Super Mario Bros. Z series by Alvin-Earthworm. The other series would be entitled Bowser's Kingdom. It is the story of Jeff the Goomba and Hal the Koopa working for Bowser. It became one of Newgrounds most quotable series. Both Jeff and Hal even cameoed in Super Mario Bros. Z. If you haven't experienced @araskin500 and @pthouse hilarious series, now is the time.

I've been tinkering with an idea for another project. Something similar to The Tank Tribune. I won't say anymore besides that for now. As always thank you to my Patrons on Patreon. Good Morning Newgrounds! How are all of you doing today? I had a break from my day job last week, so that was nice. I'm still working on adding some touches here and there to The Tank Tribune. Mainly retooling the Supporter and Member's Choice sections going forward. The Flash Forward Jam winners were announced. The Daily Feature awards have been getting picked up by collaborations more recently. Speaking of which, the Collabinator has been getting adjusted and plugged. Alice is Dead Updates

@Hyptosis has been working on a remake of the Alice is Dead Trilogy created by @ImpendingRiot and himself for a launch on Steam. The Steam version entitled Alice is Dead: Hearts and Diamonds will include new art, lore, and puzzles. A fun classic brought back for a new generation, and new experiences for the older players.

@Vortonox wants to know if he should release some of his old stuff on Newgrounds. He is looking for feedback.

We have two entries into the Flash Portal History this morning. The first one to talk about is Super PSTW Action RPG. Which is the shortened version of Super Press Space To Win Action Role-Playing Game. You go on an adventure, upgrading stats along the way, finding the golden sword, and face off against the evil King. This was a fun little game, mocking RPG tropes and simplifying them way down. It won the Daily 3rd Place and was Frontpaged. It was made by @Rhete and one of the voice actors was @D-Mac-Double. One user however did not like this game. @axman13 made a review about it. Giving it one star and listing his reasons why. This review is no long on axman13's page. However it has been forever enshrined in our next entry this morning.

@D-Mac-Double first decided to voice act axman13's review in dramatic fashion. This would go onto @RicePirate making an animation based on it. Oddly enough, axman13's review in audio and animation form would garner more views and recognition than the game he reviewed. Dot Dot Dot - Animated would go on to win the Triple Crown on Newgrounds, winning a Daily Feature, Weekly 1st Place, and funnily enough the Review Crew Pick. axman13 reviewed the movie and took it all in stride. He liked it.

The inspiration was D-Mac's track. I thought it was hilarious, classy, and well played. One night I had eaten too much salsa and I couldn't sleep on account of stomach pains. I'd always wanted to try my hand at kinetic typography, so I gave it whirl and completed it the next day. O Fortuna was the first song that came to mind and it happened to time out almost perfectly. I bank the success of DotDotDot completely on D-Mac's performance. The success of the video was a fortuitous fluke, and to this day I am most proud of it only because it brought a good chunk of traffic to Newgrounds, to Rhete's game, and most of all to D-Mac's voice talent.
