Good Morning Newgrounds! Welcome back to The Tank Tribune! There have been some small changes to the paper, and I intend to fill the gap left behind after the closing of the General forum. Tom brought up the slow loading times on the site. The problem has been found, the solution is still being worked on. If you have knowledge on this subject, then reply in this thread. Also let's give a big shoutout to @BrentHeMan, @PsychoGoldfish, and @liljim for all the hard work they do behind the scenes on Newgrounds. Tom may be our lord and savior, but without his fellow deities the church would crumble. We have a lot going on last week. This morning's Phonograph is your standard Phonograph, but it is also a celebration of the Newgrounds Audio Portal, closing with the Newgrounds Audio Portal 20th Anniversary Collaboration! Flash Forward Jam 2023

This year's Flash Forward Jam has been going on since January. The deadline was extended by the end of the day April 20th. If you haven't put your finishing touches on your entry, now is the time to do so. If you're a masochist and want to crank something out fast, you have until Thursday to do so. Don't forget to tag your submission “Flash-Forward-2023”.

Pico Day

Pico Day is coming around the corner soon, on May 6th. If you haven't started on your Pico Day entry, now would be the time. There are prizes for movies, games, music, and art. There is now a writing contest for Pico Day as well hosted by @DannyGoodShirt. The deadline for the writing contest is May 5th.

Spoken Word Poetry Collab!

@Flamadour, who you may remember from one of the issue's Phonographs, is hosting an Audio Portal collab. The goal of the collaboration is for you to write a poem and then record yourself reading it or team up with a voice actor to read it for you. The theme is "The reality you to see and manifest in the world". If you're a musician, there are openings to supply background music over each poem. There is currently no deadline announced, the target though is early May.

RULES

• Word limit is 500 or less.
• Keep it SFW as we want to have this Collab featured/front paged
• Ideally your submissions will be in .WAV format at 16bit for high quality. And sent via Drop Box or NG file dump (depending upon file size)

@Karlestonchew, winner of the 2020 Music-Inspired Art Contest, is hosting the Pico-Cross Collab alongside @Supersam111. It is an art collab where artists where your works will be the tiles in a game of picross! If you want to know more, check out last year's collab below!

RULES

• Art theme this year is anything Newgrounds related.
• Entries should be up to T-rated.
• No exact resolution requirement other than make the aspect ratio 1:1, in other words make the image a square. 
• PNG format.
• All mediums welcome, as long as it can be shown in a square PNG go for it!
• Complete art by May 4th.

If you're interested in joining, simply leave a comment with your art portfolio in the news post linked above. The deadline for applications is April 28th. The deadline for completed art is May 4th, Star Wars Day.

Art-Inspired Music Contest 2023

@Random-storykeeper is back again to host this year's AIM Contest! This is a contest that was originally started by @ThatJohnnyGuy and is celebrating its 10 Year Anniversary! Full list of rules are in the news post above, but as a primer. You can't start work on your entry yet. This is preparation time. The contest will begin officially when Random-storykeeper posts the contest thread in the Audio Forum on April 21st. The deadline for the contest will be June 19th.

There are openings for judges and volunteers. You can start browsing the Art Portal for inspiration. It's also a good time to contact the author about using their piece for the contest.

New Sublo and Tangy Mustard Episode Coming Soon

@Aaron-Long has been in production of the 3rd episode of Season 3. The title is "Nightclub". It is going to be the largest episode yet. You can see a sneak peek of a scene on his Patreon. Good Evening Newgrounds! I know this issue is a bit late. The Tank Tribune is still undergoing construction as of this post. I implore your patience for just a little longer. My personal life balance has been under control. However, at work I collapsed having chest pains. It wasn't another heart attack, thankfully, my blood pressure spiked which caused a domino effect throughout my body. I don't know what triggered it, but it sucked to say the least. So I spent part of Friday in the hospital, went home that day, and rested Saturday and most of today. I have been working on the relaunch of The Tank Tribune, and a huge dedication to Newgrounds overall. With that said, here are some of the events you may have missed. Sorry for the delays, but as I've come to understand, real life can be both amazing and shitty, and at the same time. With that out of the way, here are the hip happenings of Newgrounds!

NG Festivals Short Story Contest!

@Kekiiro and @Slimygoo are hosting a writing contest for the Newgrounds Summer Festival! It is a short story contest. The deadline is this Saturday, April 15th. Make your last edits or start on something now! The rules are as follows:

1) Your entry must be completely original. This means you cannot include characters from any pre-existing series that you did not make. For example! Fanfic with your FnF OC or your favorite Doctor Who companion is not a valid entry. As cool and amazing as it may be, I won’t read it.

2) There is one entry allowed per person. You may collab on a story with someone. However, that counts as one entry for both of you.

3) All entries must be SFW. This means if you would rate it with an M or above, do not submit it.

When on an episode of Off The Wall, I came to a realization that Newgrounds is about to turn 30 years old. Isn't that amazing? How the site could be around for thirty years? It just blows my mind. This has been an incredible place that has molded me, shaped me to who I am today. The Tank Tribune blew up in popularity, and I am fortunate enough to be able to work on it for all of you and be here with all of you. For that I am eternally grateful. Good Morning Newgrounds! If you have been away from the site for a while, the General and Politics Forums have been closed down. There's a lot stirring up involving what happened, what's going on, and some users have left the site due to this. I won't be touching on any of that today. I am more concerned with moving forward and making Newgrounds a better place for everyone here. Perhaps it was about time to put an end to General. This is after all a place meant for creativity first and conversation second. I won't lie that I have met some of my Newgrounds friends and acquaintances through the General and Politics Forums. I at the same time have met more through Clubs & Crews and Video Games. I met @Fro through the Review Request Club, I met @ZJ through the Video Games Forum, and others through the My Little Pony Club in the Clubs & Crews. It was an amazingly fun ride, one I thoroughly enjoyed. At the same time, I wish more people would have discussed the amazing talent and skill we have on the site. The only thing I mainly saw was people questioning and/or hating on the popularity of FRIDAY NIGHT FUNKIN'. This issue has ended up coming out late because of it. This issue will not be covering any news today. It is a special edition that is dedicated to the closing of these two forums. There will also be new information regarding where things have been moved around. Next Sunday's issue will be the mega issue. With a huge Phonograph and a celebration of what makes Newgrounds great!

I'm the first to post, worship me..

The first thread ever posted to the Newgrounds Forum. It was created by @zoro on February 22, 2001. It set the standard early on for what the General Forum was in store for. It is incredible that this thread still stands to this day with its simplicity. It has since been locked so no new posts can be added to it. It is now a relic to look back in awe. Members who posted in this thread that are still on Newgrounds include @ToonHole, @DingleberryClock, and @olskoo. With returning member @TFX.

I feel lucky today

Created by @MetalDart on September 15, 2007. Each thread has its own ID number so it can be easy to find and track. This happened to be thread number 777777. Quite a lucky number to get.

Funny thread title pairs.

Created by @Rohedin on April 11, 2007. Sometimes two threads would be matched up by coincidence on the forums and it was always funny to see it. Then parody threads would pop up with the original thread and then it wasn't much of a coincidence anymore. The thread was fun, but it got out of hand and became a +1 fest so it was locked. It is fun to look back on it though.

The Newgrounds Tank Wall project

Back in 2009, @Elios had a large part of his wall and decided he was going to add the Newgrounds Tank Logo to it. This project blew out of proportion and then the members of Newgrounds started having their names added to the wall. Even though Elios doesn't live there anymore, the pictures serve as piece of Newgrounds history. Remember, there are always ways to contribute to Newgrounds.

The No Cussing Club

A long time ago, there was a movement started by a 14 year old named McKay Hatch. The goal was to stop cussing. There was quite the discussion on the forums about is this just a wholesome movement to help clean up language or was it a movement under the guise of censorship?

September 11 happened almost 20 years ago today. The original 9/11 thread was made discussing what was going on as it was happening. Where were you when the towers were hit? September 11 is recognized as Patriot Day in the USA.

V-Tech Rampage

Ross brought up the game and its creator. How it circulated among the popular gaming websites and media outlets at the time. PiGPEN stated that if people donated enough money to his PayPal he would take it down. Ross asked the Newgrounds public what they thought about the game, did they think PiGPEN's actions were in poor taste, and should the game be taken down or left up?

What Makes Newgrounds Great

Ross would follow up on this development with responses from the Newgrounds community. Ranging from remove it outright for its offensive content. It is in poor taste that PiGPEN is looking to profit off of it, remove it for that. It is freedom of speech so it must be kept up. There are far more offensive things on the site as it is, so just leave it up. Ross read all of these and thought about it more and more. His response was thus...

The beast awakens

Long ago, in the magical year of 2009, there was a man by the name of @DrForeman. He was a beast of a man. A true spectacle to behold. A warrior tried and true. We were all jellyous. Unfortunately though, he had an enemy. @TheSouthernTower found his Achille's Heel. He merely commented "Dude, you have a fucking giraffe neck.". It would not take long for this to spiral out of control. The beast would come with a nickname that would follow him for the remainder of his time on Newgrounds. Dick Neck. A major motion picture was made.

Photoshop Bedn!

Throughout all of the photoshop threads on Newgrounds, the one that is the granddaddy of the all is when Newgrounds at the will of @WadeFulp photoshopped Joshua Bend. A Newgrounds regular who had a picture with Wade. This picture is so iconic here on Newgrounds that when other members meet Tom or Wade they strike the same pose.

@sirtom93. What an event that was. This user said that he was going to burn down his school and use other forms of violence. He would later on state that it was a joke, but it wasn't taken as a joke. @WadeFulp entered the thread with the iconic line...

Leave this topic, authorities are being contacted.

From there, Newgrounds member @deckheadtottie was able to get a hold of the authorities where sirtom93 was. He was caught, arrested, put on trial, and served time in prison. Moderator @Rig detailed everything in this news post. Multiple games and movies came out after this event. One being How I Buy Petrol?. Newgrounds has contacts all over the world. We stick together. You make threats, we will bust you, and then we will laugh at you.

The Push For Pico Day!

@Galloglasses came up with the idea to celebrate one of Newgrounds mascots. The creation of Tom Fulp, Pico. Pico is to Newgrounds what Mickey Mouse is to Disney. Pico Day is an important holiday here on Newgrounds. A celebration of Pico and his friends, the TANKMEN, and other Newgrounds iconic characters. This was an idea back in 2005. We have celebrated Pico Day since then.

The thread has since closed, but I would like to revive it here. If you comment this morning on the Tribune, join in! One of the greatest and funniest users of all time @TheJamoke made a thread involving the porn stash found when Osama bin Laden was killed by SEAL Team 6. This is one of the funniest threads of all time here on Newgrounds. Do yourself a favor and spend the afternoon going through this one.

The Regulars Lounge 2.0

With Tom talking about closing the Politics forum I think it is important to note the lounge where regular users of the Politics forum would gather. The discussion of hard politics is not allowed in this thread and is more of a way to unwind, vent, and enjoy one another's company. The original lounge was deleted long ago. This one has stood the test of time and shows that although the Politics forum can be messy, the good parts overall outweigh the bad.

Huge goddamned spider

@Rage came across a huge spider in his basement back in 2009. He reacted in a manly way by screaming like a little girl and running. He caught it in a container and asked Newgrounds what he should do with it.

1st Annual Ng Hoeboating Expedition

Yar me matey! Are ye looking for some fun and promiscuity on the high seas? Then come along with us on the Newgrounds Hoeboating Expedition! With ye faithful Captain @RedCoin and First Mate @Dean. Many a shipmate were on this expedition to plunder booty. RedCoin's faithful parrot @The-Great-One, Grand Advisor @Timmy, Binocular Guy @Jay, and Galley Cook @tarahloveshentai. They were attacked by Pirate Captain @Slint. daethdrain was also part of the ship and took down the vicious Pirate Captain Slint. You may better know daethdrain as @Seth. Pirate Captain Slint didn't stay down long though. He came back with a vengeance. The Navy showed up. @Sheizenhammer was left behind. @ZJ came in with not only a cool guy helicopter, but a submarine as well. In the end it was tarahloveshentai who would find the hoes. This was one of Newgrounds most fun threads and it would continue onward! That is a story for another time.

Album of the Week ♫

@Jackho started a thread back in 2019. It was a way of sharing albums, discussing them, and rating them. A lot of Newgrounds members were introduced to music they may not listen to. The last album shared in the thread was in October 2019. How it worked was thus...

1. We throw our names into a randomizer
2. Whoever gets picked chooses an album for the following week
3. You listen to the album either in your own time, or as part of a totally radical listen-along discord group so we can REACT together.
4. Post your thoughts on the album and give it a rating, then gear up for the next album

I know that there are many MANY threads I have forgotten. Share some of your favorite threads from the past below. Goodbye General. Goodbye Politics. You were fun, it is time to move on though. Newgrounds Art Scheduler!

@KittyhawkMontrose has released a scheduler which will automatically post your art submissions to the Art Portal on a specified date. For you comic artists, this could come in handy. Tom is working behind the scenes on making Art submissions integrated into the project system, so this may soon be obsolete. It is useful for artists now until then.

I have officially returned—somewhat!

@GlowBoyMusic recently has gone through quite a lot in terms of health problems and moving. We talked about this back in Issue NO. 58. They're slowly making their return to Newgrounds, with some surprises in the works!

My personal life has come between time to work on the paper and getting it posted. Looking to have it ready by Tuesday for all of you here. To help fill in the blanks. My best friend has a brother who is gay. For anonymity and protection, I will call him Rex. Rex and I have known each other through my best friend. In the recent years we've gotten to hang out more and talk to one another. I started to have feelings for him last year. He has been wanting to hang out with me more and more recently. We've connected more throughout these past couple of weeks. That's where my time has been lately.

Sziphix, 1990-2022

A regular of the London Meet-Ups, @Sziphix passed away back in 2022. It wasn't found out until liljim tried to wish him a happy birthday on Facebook. Sziphix will surely be missed here on Newgrounds. The joy and fun he brought to the members of Newgrounds will last for years.

It is time we take a look back at the viral sensation that was Friday by Rebecca Black. A song that became infamous on the site. It was loved by teens and tweens. While equally being hated by teens, young adults, and adults. It was an incredibly polarizing music video and song. This is not a discussion fo Rebecca Black, that is its own topic. A small nod to Rebecca Black though is that she never took the video down, deleted comments, disabled comments, or listed the video as kids only so you couldn't see the comments. That's pretty awesome.

We are here to discuss the Point and Click Adventure Game made by @Manly-Chicken and @Pjorg. Take Rebecca Black through her Friday, to get fresh, get cereal, and party. It is a game that you can win by just following the music video, with some pitfalls here and there.

Newgrounds Summerfest Application Deadline

The deadline to participate in this year's Summerfest is approaching. If you want to be a part of the panel, have an event idea, host a contest, or become a volunteer. Be sure to have your application submitted before April 5th. The Summerfest will be on August 25th-27th. This year it will not only broadcast through Discord, but through YouTube as well!

Pico Day

Avatar The Last Airbender - Recreated!

@ThrJester is looking to start a collaboration to reanimate one episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Each animator will animate a few seconds shot in any style they choose. It will all be put together into one episode. The project is also looking to contain remixes of the songs and voice actors. It is a non-paid passion project. @FrozenFire would bring us an ambitious project entitled Relive Your Life. Throughout mini games, narration from @Egoraptor, and music from the Audio Portal, you would bring to life your creation. There are a lot of ups and downs, some laughs are had, but in the end, we all must go. It is an incredible game from beginning to end with a ton of replay value.

"I was actually about 90% done with Relive Your Life when I was at Pico Day, because the game was made as a college assignment and it was due the day I got back. I finished putting it together on the plane ride to Texas. At the beginning of that month, I messaged Arin out of the blue and asked him, "Hey we are both going to be at Pico Day! Would you like to work with me on something?" I warned him it was a lot of voice work, but he didn't skip a beat to say yes. He was in the middle of a move too, so that just speaks wonders for his character."

My apologies for the tardiness of this. I had plans for the weekend and I wasn't able to get this up until this Monday morning. Shall not happen again. I am on track with my projects since I'm not juggling as much as I used to. Next week will be the official return of The Interviewer, another Off The Wall episode, and I'll be highlighting entries from the Newgrounds Treasure Hunt as well.
