LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Good Evening Newgrounds! Happy Mother's Day to @DrSevenSeizeMD, @AprilFulp, and @TurkeyOnAStick! You all have children to take care of, outside and here on Newgrounds! We thank you for all that you do for us! Sorry about getting this issue out late. One reason is with new changes, I have been fiddling with the tools for the playlist stuff, redesigning The Tank Tribune into something that I am happy with, with little success. This issue was meant to come out this morning, but I've had a lot on my mind. One topic is the Eddsworld Charity Art Contest, which will be discussed in detail below. I've been thinking about Edd, and what he meant to the site. I've been going back over the interview I did with him. It still sits with me. I wasn't close to Edd, didn't follow him as closely as others here did. I knew of his works on the site and how much they made me laugh. When researching for his interview, that's when I found out he had cancer. I published that interview in August 2012. Less than seven months later he would die. I don't know if I should consider myself lucky that I was able to talk to him about his life and his works before he was gone. I do know this though. I didn't know him well, but I wish I did. I am thankful that he was able to share his wisdom with Newgrounds, share his laughter, his friendships, his creativity. That's been weighing on mind a lot lately. I am back to work on my projects though. If Edd can do all that he did for us, while battling cancer, we all can carry that same strength to make something incredible, hilarious, a bit crude, a bit perverted, a little silly, to escape from reality. Even if just a little while.

Eddsworld 20th Charity Art Contest

The 20th Anniversary of @eddsworld content is being celebrated in an art contest for charity. You can contribute to Prize Pool or the Charity Pool or both. The date for posting entries will be on June 6th with “Eddsworld20” tag. The charity fund will be sent to Young Lives vs Cancer. For those who don't know who Edd Gould is, he was a pioneer animator here on Newgrounds. His movies brought a ton of joy to those here on the site and still do to this day. He sadly passed away at the young age of 23.

To @eddsworld, @TomSka, and @wallycube. Thanks for bringing us these memories of your friendship. It truly means more than you will ever know.

Art-Inspired Music Contest 2023

This year's AIM is officially underway! @Random-storykeeper is hosting this contest again, not only that, it's the 10-Year Anniversary! The deadline is June 19th at 11:59 PDT. Check out the link to see the full list of rules and criteria. The primer though is this. As a musician, find a piece of art from the Art Portal and create a song that inspires you based on that piece.

Newgrounds Christmas in July Collab Album 2023

@MasterHand4444 is hosting a collaboration album, all about Christmas! ... in July? Yes. The collab will consist of making instrumental versions of public domain Christmas songs to release a Royalty Free Album, everywhere! Songs are first come first serve on a spreadsheet provided. To join you can either reply in the thread or message MasterHand4444. If there is a public domain Christmas song that you don't see on the list, then ask MasterHand4444 if it can be added.

Check out the thread for the terms of the collab. The deadline to join is July 11th or whenever the slots are filled. The deadline for submission is July 18th. If you have any questions, message MasterHand4444.

Once upon a time, there was a website called Songs To Wear Pants To. A website by @andrewismusic, a.k.a. Andrew Huang, where he would make songs based off just about anything. Hits have included Justin, Whoa!, The Touchtone Genius, and The Ballad of the Zachs just to name a few. Some of his songs would be animated here on Newgrounds in their own collection. The most famous being The Touchtone Genius.

@squeakytoad decided that there should be a collaboration of Andrew's songs. This collab would feature a who's who of Newgrounds; @AlmightyHans, @RWappin, and @eddsworld, again just to name a few. It is an incredible collaborative effort with a lot of fun behind it. Even @andrewismusic has given it his blessing. This collab would be called Shorts To Wear Pants To.

"That’s the first time I’d organized an animated collab, having done an art forum collab, and I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. I had a folder full of Andrew’s songs that I wanted to see brought to life with animation, so I asked other people who liked his content if they’d be interested in collaborating. The guys you mentioned above I invited, but we also opened it up to anyone on the Newgrounds animation forum. That wasn’t the norm then - most collabs were invite-only - but I see over the last decade, there are plenty of taking-all-comers collabs (which is awesome, cause they’re a great way to practice and build a network). Everyone picked their own songs too."

Fun in the Sun

@Luis has wrapped up a basketball game with @BoMToons, @Dry, and @VoicesByCorey. He's looking forward to using the Portal Defenders platform for other genres of games. He may be able to attend one of the days for the Too Many Games Meetup. He'll also be in Canada during a meetup there. Luis is also working on other pixel art projects.

10 YEARS ON NG

@CorTat-G is celebrating his tenth year on Newgrounds. He's an artist we have featured here on The Tank Tribune in the past, Issue NO. 39. He has been a part of the Bike Slide Collab, supplied his voice to the Chaotic Heart series, and is hosting the upcoming Too Many Games Meetup. An amazing creator who has made great contributions to Newgrounds. Here's to another ten years!

Hellion: Oxenfree (PILOT)

A Much-Needed Update

@GeekyAnimator has made his return after being dormant. He's been dealing with mental fatigue, stress, and overwork. Things have been improving and he's looking to becoming more active in the community. Stop by and give him a hello and check out some of his works below.

Convention Schedule (as of 5/10/23)

@AlmightyRayzilla has released the conventions he'll be attending. He'll be at the Nerds! Assemble Con July 8th and 9th, Anime Conbini Mart July 15th and 16th, NEA Game Fest July 20th through July 23rd, and the Arkansas Comic Con September 8th through September 10th. If you're a fan of his works, you can catch him there. He also has open commissions and pieces to buy at Storenvy and TeePublic.

That's what's been going on here on Newgrounds. Sorry if part of the paper seemed to be a bit of a downer. As well as for my absence. My personal life has taken hold lately. I am back on track though. There's a lot I need to do for The Tank Tribune under the hood going forward. Especially when the news post update gets launched. Perhaps this will soon be the steps going towards a proper Literature Portal on Newgrounds. One can dream though, one can certainly dream. Thank you all for reading and joining me here today.
