I feel like working on The Tank Tribune has become a chore over time. It has become a bit stale. I want it to be more than it can be. Better than it can be. I've been tinkering in the background for quite a while now. That's the reason the delays. I will have something glorious and brand new for you with the next issue.

Thank you all for reading, and I'm hoping you like what I have in store. With that said, The Tank Tribune will be returning to Mondays going forward. It's the only way I can possibly make this work for the time being.

Pixel Day is January 23rd!

The 8th Annual Pixel Day is approaching! A Newgrounds holiday to celebrate pixel art! Awards go to Best Pixel Animation, Pixel Game, Pixel Art, and Chiptune Music! Get inspired and share something pixelated for the big day! The contest was originally created by @ThatJohnnyGuy back in 2016!

"I had two things in mind when creating Pixel Day, having the idea in 2015. I wanted a new NG-exclusive holiday to bring more people to Newgrounds every year, true to NG's roots as a 90's game industry-inspired platform with the look. 🐸FRIENDLY FROG COLLAB🐸

@midgetsausage has an idea for a collaboration about frogs. He got the idea after re-watching the movie which won him his first Daily Feature entitled two frogs. As long as they are doing frog things, as long as they're cute while doing it. The rules for collaboration entry are as followed.

COLLAB ENTRY RULES/GUIDELINES

• Your entry must be animated, even if the frogs in the video are doing nothing. Like at least animate them breathing or something.
• Your entry must be 24fps, and must be between 5 and 11 seconds long. Entries below and/or above that limit won't be considered.
• Aspect ratio must be 16:9, what resolution your entry is is completely up to you.
• You're free to add sound effects as long as they aren't too loud, but please no music as much as possible, as we're gonna overlay music on top of the entries a la Sketch Collab.
• Make and send as many entries as you want, just remember that quality > quantity matters more here.
• Absolutely no NSFW. Do not desecrate God's most sacred of creatures.
• Lastly, your entry needs to be an .mp4/.mov video!!! Though if you really really wanna be in the collab but you really really can't export your stuff as a video file, I'm willing to make exceptions.

Flash Forward Jam 2023

The 3rd Annual Flash Forward Jam is officially underway! A jam to celebrate the legacy of Flash which was disbanded back in January 2020. The goal is to make a movie with interactive elements in Flash or a Flash Game. The rules for the jam are as follows.

• Make a game or interactive movie with Flash. Interactive movies include animation collabs with cool menu systems, or something with decisions / alternate endings.

• Make it with ActionScript 2 or (minimally supported) AS3 and confirm it works via Ruffle before publishing. You will see a “Test with Ruffle” link on your preview page. Ruffle is what we use to run Flash on NG without the Flash plugin.

• Please avoid the use of copyrighted character and unlicensed commercial music. We love it when people work with artists from the Audio Portal and also manage an additional list of music resources.

• Publish on NG by end of day March 26th with the “Flash-Forward-2023” tag.

The prize for Best Flash Game is $1,000! If you want to add more to the prize fund, just donate here and message Tom telling him you want it towards the Interactive Movie, Flash Game, or split between both. Your name will be added to the sponsors list.

Everything that has been going on the past few months has been hell. I am happy to be here with all of you again though. I am looking forward to the new year, with many goals and things I wish to accomplish while I am here on Newgrounds. I am eager that all of you will join me for the ride.

Hello. I want to be clear that this isn't some farewell letter, not a meaning of departure. The Tank Tribune will be returning. I was hoping to return it earlier, but a lot has been going on from September through now. The Tank Tribune will be returning in January, the new year. It will also be returning to Mondays going forward. I just wanted to give all of you an update of where I've been.

COVID-19

Well, I managed to get it. It sucked. I already have a heart murmur as it is. Combine that with the symptoms of COVID and just breathing was a challenge. I couldn't work on anything Newgrounds related. The last issue I got out was while I had COVID. At first, I thought I was feeling better near the end of September. Nope. That was a lie. COVID took me through most of October as well.

Memory Issue

I was also battling memory issues from October through even today. There are times when I can't remember what I did even just two minutes ago or even remember an entire day. One of the side effects of COVID does involve memory loss. I am hoping to recover more on that front. It's been okay, but there will still be times where I will stop doing something in one room to do something in another and I had forgotten the transition or whatever I was doing beforehand. When I can remember bits and pieces it feels like I teleported. It is quite freaky. At the same time though, I don't think brains are supposed to do that.

My Dad

Before Thanksgiving, my dad had swelling in his left leg and foot. We went to the hospital and found out he had blood clots in his leg. He was put on heparin to help break up the clots. They operated on him and pulled two clots out that were each about 3 inches long. At first happy ending. After Thanksgiving though, he started having pain in his left arm. He went back to the hospital and that's when he had open heart surgery. Quadruple bypass surgery. During the surgery, he had to be put on a ventilator, because his heart wasn't as strong as the doctor's though it would be. He was taken off the ventilator at 2:00 AM EST today and he's been recovering great. Not sure when he can come home though.

That has been my past three months. A bad way to end 2022 for sure. I have been physically falling apart, mentally falling apart, and with everything going on with my dad, completely exhausted. I hope you all have been having a better time than I have.

I'll leave you with this. If you have a good relationship with your father, and you're still able to call or talk to him. Call your dad and tell him you love him. Thank you all for your kindness, patience, and understanding. I am looking forward to seeing you all here again in January.

Hello readers of The Tank Tribune. Thank you all for your patience and understanding during the past two months. For those unaware, I had COVID back in September and was recovering throughout October. During October, I have been struggling with memory issues as well. I can't remember the simplest things of the same day. I am looking to make a doctor's appointment and get looked over.

In the meantime, The Tank Tribune will be returning. Due to my work schedule though I have to return it back to Monday's. It's just easier on my mind, which I could use a lot of easy right now. Thank you again for your time, patience, and understanding, it means a lot to me.

Sorry there haven't been any issues lately. I recently had COVID and it took me out through all of August. I thought I was recovering this month, but I rebounded. I already have heart problems as it is, so with COVID making breathing difficult, it put a strain on my heart that I didn't need. I am almost 100%. I tend to return to giving you the news of Newgrounds with the return issue on October 2nd. Thank you all for your paitence.

The Internet Archive is in trouble

@Kolumbo has brought up that the Internet Archive is currently being sued by major book publishers over their online book lending program. HarperCollins, one of the publishers suing, states that the Internet Archive has exceeded what libraries are legally allowed to do and are suing for copyright infringement.

The stories of Rapid Hedgehog Cucumber Cucumber. It was made by @PeopleAlways. It was his first and only flash movie here on Newgrounds. After that, he disappeared completely from the site. No posts, no reviews, no favorites, that's it. The story itself is what you would expect from a children's or tween cartoon. The bizarreness of it is the voice acting, the characters recolored and/or redesigned characters from other shows. It is surely a strange flash. One of Newgrounds little one hit wonders. From the author's descriptions, there were plans for a whole series, but it never came to fruition.

I have combined the General News, Artist News, and Community News all into one big section to help conserve space so I can post more pictures of more cool things happening! Newgrounds New York Meetup 2022

On July 24th, there was a meetup of Newgrounds members in the Empire State. Almost twenty Newgrounders attended the event. @CaptainStevie is hosting a meetup in Philadelphia. Downtown Sheraton Philadelphia in Panel Room 1. If the event is a success, he will host more in the future. 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE UGASI SHOW

@Ugasisvelta is celebrating one year of The Ugasi Show here on Newgrounds with an art contest. The goal is to draw a fanart piece involving most of the cast or any of the guests that have been on the show. Rules and cast members can be seen in the news post. Below are the prizes.

• 1ST - $50 - Artwork will be digitally autographed by all of the cast. Winner will also receive their own UCU episode.
• 2ND - $25 - Artwork will be digitally autographed by all of the cast.
• 3RD - $15 - Artwork will be digitally autographed by all of the cast.

On the Today Show

The frozen treat known as the Klondike Choco Taco has been discontinued by Klondike. One Newgrounds member in particular was saddened by this revelation and made a tweet about it, that user being @TomFulp. He made a tweet about it that was featured on the TODAY show's news segment about the ice cream. There has been good news in this regard. Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian has offered to purchase the rights to Choco Tacos. He doesn't have any news to share on this regard. Klondike has responded to the consumer's response in possibly bringing them back in the coming years.

Newgrounds Audio DeathMatch 2022 - Round 1 Closed

@LD-W has announced the closing of Round 1 for the DeathMatch. No more entries may be submitted by the combatants. The judging process is underway and will last two weeks, with Round 1 beginning on August 15th, Clock Day. LD-W has made a playlist compiling all of the Round 1 entries.

@GrantTheHierophant is working on a pilot for an upcoming show he's working on called Hellion. He requires voice actors for his cast. This is a paid job in which you will be paid based on experience, equipment, and skill. Please state your rates when you apply. Here are the characters that need voices. Voice actors must be 18 years or older to audition.

Summer Collab Album!

@Dry is organizing a collaborative album with the theme of Summer. The collaboration will be on a private Discord server. If you want to join, PM Dry a copy of your work so he can decide whether or not to give you an invite. Once you're invited you will have until August 26th to complete your song. It needs to be sent in the Discord as an .mp3 or .wav. It will be used to make one big album on YouTube.

@ZaneLittle has been working on a project where he makes a new song every day. He will be ending it on Day 30. It's not something he can keep up with due to working on songs for clients and listings. He has given advice on whether or not you should do this. For new musicians he gives a resounding yes. You can check out the collection here. Once ZaneLittle has completed the project, it will be added to the Archive.

"You don't have to share it or do anything with it, just DO it! It's fantastic practice, and wonderful discipline for people who struggle with musician's block. Forcing yourself to do this will make you more comfortable with getting started on new tracks, will make you more familiar and efficient with your DAW, and will likely force you to try new things which in basically all cases means learning new things! Finding a way around a busy schedule has its benefits too, and will get you to create music in situations where you may be limited or unfamiliar. The longer you go, the stronger a musician you will be, and I believe that fully!!"

Sorry there hasn't been a lot to this issue this week. I've been hard at work trying to make The Tank Tribune better and more appealing to Newgrounds. I am excited for the return of The Newgrounds Podcast! Perhaps it will be time to feature them in the paper again. With what I have planned, I can certainly squeeze them in here. It is tough to try and fit as much as possible within this space. Perhaps one day we will have that Literature Portal. Until then, the news posts will have to suffice.
