Good Morning Newgrounds! There are quite the number of collaborations happening here on Newgrounds. If you want to know more about them then check out the Calendar below. It’s been updated to include dates for all collaboration deadlines and events. Naturally The Tank Tribune will cover upcoming collabs. Instagram is looking to profit off of its creators, sneakily. The taglines at the top of each issue are now a Newgrounds Supporter Feature. I am excited to be back to writing The Tank Tribune for you. The latest episode of @X-RL7 is live on Newgrounds now! If you don’t know what the series is about, it’s a pixel art series about video games and music starring the fictional band of X-RL7. The latest episode features a new song entitled Bitrate Love, which was made in collaboration with Love X Stereo. Check out the latest episode and every episode of X-RL7!

The SUMMERGROUNDS SHOWDOWN is underway. @Razur-Draws is the host this year. The goal is to make a piece of art based off of a prompt from the character list. There are already great pieces from the first two days of the event! Check out the tag summergrounds2024 to see more!

Urgent message for Instagram Users

@GuardiasVA has updated us on Meta’s new policy. For those not in the know, Meta is the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Meta’s new policy will make it to where they can use your photos and videos without your consent. If you’re an artist or animator who posts your artwork or animation to Instagram, keep your wits about you. Art Growth Club posted a video on how to not allow Meta to use your data.

@Slopgok is hosting an art collab where the goal is to draw inanimate objects as living beings. Below are the guidelines. The deadline is August 25th!

HOW TO JOIN

1. Have a Newgrounds account so I can credit you (if you don’t have one, sign up!)
2. Draw something related to BFDI or object shows in general. This includes drawing fanart of object show characters, or drawing your object OCs (or turning your OCs into objects) or creating a new character
3. Post the images of the art here (you can also post to the Art portal and send the link here).
4. I will let you know if I allowed your submissions, and if I did, congrats! You will now have one more game in your latest created games tab soon!

RULES

1. No AI-generated art. If you submit AI art here, you will promptly get eliminated.
2. You may create your art in any way: digital drawing, non-digital drawing, 3D model, painting, paper crafts, etc.
3. No extremely low effort/quality submissions. You are also not allowed to use pre-made assets. (Edit: I will allow pre-made assets if the asset in question has been modified significantly)
4. Keep all submissions rated E or T.
5. Post your submissions before the deadline.

The week can get people down sometimes. With all of the hustle and bustle and action packed drama that entails our lives, sometimes it's nice to just kickback and relax. This week we’re taking a look at some of the games from 2006.

These weary bones have grown tired. Despite my age, I feel older than I should. I can’t operate at the workhorse levels that I used to. Stress doesn’t help either. Since I was 13 I’ve had a bad back due to scoliosis, my spine curves right at my neck. I’ve had bad knees. I’m going deaf in one ear. About ten years ago is when I had to get prescription glasses. I’m an old man trapped in whatever the hell my body is supposed to be. I’ve had to slow down my workflow because of this. I’m still dedicated to giving my all to Newgrounds. I’ll see all of you next week!

Good Morning Newgrounds! I was unfortunately not able to produce a large issue for The Tank Tribune. My day job has been killer, plus July is always a hectic month and it’s bleeding into August. I’ve been planning a group birthday party for my brother and my best friend, we were all born in July. I don’t even have enough time to really write a letter here. @Razur-Draws has announced this year’s Newgrounds Midsummer Rumble. The name has been changed to SUMMERGROUNDS SHOWDOWN. It is a month-long art challenge where you draw a character from the prompt sheet for each day, starting August 1st to August 31st. Everyone can participate in the challenge! From Razur-Draws, here’s how it works.

GUIDELINES

• Each prompt theme is just a suggestion, you can draw whatever character you wish from that specific prompt.
• It's okay if you only draw the prompts you like the most, don't be afraid to skip a day if you don't feel like it.

@Little-Rena is getting ready for Clock Day this August with the 4th Anniversary of Clock of the BBS. The goal is to draw a clock persona of anything and send it to her. If you’re a Supporter you can be part of this BBS event and others in the Supporter Party. She has also been the host of the Newgrounds BBS Awards since 2019!

@RWappin has recently done an animated segment for Weird Al Yankovic’s newest music video, which you can watch below! He once did an animation for one of Weird Al’s songs entitled Albuquerque: THE MOVIE. He’s also been working with @psychicpebbles and @MichaelCusack on the show Smiling Friends.

@whimsical-wife is hosting a new collaboration. The goal is to draw a new variant of your favorite Pokemon. It can be regional, origin, or any other form that has been shown in the series. You will also come up with a new Pokedex entry as well. Here are the guidelines below.

GUIDELINES

1. You may draw a minimum of one Pokemon and a maximum of 3 Pokemon. Whether you draw 3 unique Pokemon or choose to create an entire evolution line is up to you.

2. The collab will be T-Rated, but only for darker themes in your Pokemon's Dex entry. No sexual themes or visual gore on your designs.

3. Only use regions that are referenced in actual Pokemon media. regions from the main games are fine, as well as regions from spin off titles. just dont make up a region.

4. You're allowed to use a Pokemon another person has used, but only if you select a different region or gimmick to base it off of. (i.e, if someone made a Unovan Charizard, it would still be okay for you to use Charizard just as long as it isn't based off of Unova.)

5. Please try to keep Dex entries brief! I'd say 180 characters is about the limit, but it's very much preferred if you dont push it for space reasons.

6. Submit your image with a transparent background! If you can't do that yourself, let me know and I'll try to make it transparent for you.

7. The maximum canvas size for entries is 1000 x 1000! going smaller is okay. you entry may be submitted before the collab goes up! the collab tag is #pokemon-variance-collab

8. The deadline is October 15th, 2024! hope that gives everyone enough time. The deadline may be extended if needed.

9. Both un-scouted and scouted artists are welcome, but you may have your entry turned down or asked to be revised if it seems you made something rushed and low quality just to get into the collab.

The newest Transformers collab is out and you can watch it by clicking above! Blamformers!: Revenge of the Blammed is the sequel to the original Transformers collab Blamformers!. A project 17 years in the making. The original Blamformers! was headed by @TomFulp. This sequel would be headed by @CrockettDK, @BeefyThunder, and @Gray.

3manonMusic has started up a new collaboration for the Audio Portal. The goal is to make one huge song that everyone can contribute to! It is inspired by ENTROPIC EQUILIBRIUM, a 15 minute song with more than 50 musicians making it. Here are the guidelines below.

GUIDELINES

1. Only Scouted Artists from the Audio Portal will be considered.
2. You can send your work to the Newgrounds Audio Portal Collab Center or in the official thread. This includes samples, stems, midi melodies, and entire sections, but it has to be in the key of D# (doesn't really matter if it's major or minor).
3. The deadline is September 15th. After that, no more submissions.
4. 3manonMusic is looking for section managers to assist with mixing. Send him a DM on Discord or Newgrounds. Be aware that he’s looking for those advanced in music production.
5. Submissions must be rated E for Everyone.
6. The preferable tempo is 170 BPM.

There is no guarantee your piece will be in the final product, but credit will be given where it is due.

Small life update!

@stupidvampire has been going through living conditions hell. The public transportation was in a small forest town and not in a major city, plus it was only for college students. The landlord messed up his lease so the first month he was living with an animal hoarder. The public transportation situation made getting a job hard. With no job, no money, which meant he was serviced with a “Pay or Leave” notice. Luckily a friend on Discord has helped them with a place to live. They’re still open to doing art commissions. Check out his works below!

Is Traditional Animation Dead?

Good Morning Newgrounds! This issue will be the closing of an era for The Tank Tribune. There have been changes to the site that have been made in which I will be formatting a lot of sections. Featured Artist will no longer be a part of The Tank Tribune. The reasoning is a lot of artists have their licensing terms listed as “You may not use this work for any purposes”. I weighed a lot on whether or not it would be right to showcase someone’s work when they don’t want it used for “any purposes”. If I can figure something out it will return. Flash Portal History will be changing to Newgrounds History to include a lot of what makes Newgrounds one of the best sites to release your work on. This issue is containing just some General News. For those who haven’t been caught up, I have been dealing with memory issues as well as my day job draining me. My worst habit has always been putting more on my plate than I should. I need to find a proper work balance while juggling my personal life. Rex and I will be at a convention, the Southeast Game Exchange. He will be doing photography for me, while I cover the event.

Got Logged Out? We Figured Out Why!

There was a bug where users were being logged out after one year despite activity. Something stopped the reset session for active users. It has been resolved though! If you were having problems with NordVPN. If you use NordVPN or a VPN in general and it is giving you issues, be sure to reply in the thread. If you’re not able to, you can always E-Mail Support.

Sludge Brothers FANART CHALLENGE!

@PFINNEY is hosting a fan art contest for their new series SLUDGE BROTHERS. You can draw one of four characters from the show, with sticker packs as prizes for each. Best overall art will win sticker packs and a limited edition T-Shirt! To enter simply post your picture to the Art Portal with the tag “sludgebrothers” or “sludge-brothers”. This challenge runs for two weeks from July 6th to July 20th.

THE RETURN OF NEWGROUNDS MIDSUMMER RUMBLE

@Razur-Draws is bringing back the Newgrounds Midsummer Rumble. An art contest that involves drawing Newgrounds characters. Think of it like Inktober, but Newgrounds themed. It’s that time of year again! The Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch has returned! This year is being hosted by @AED-4.  Here are the rules and regulations! Hello Newgrounds!

Great news! Things have been going better for me. Memory issues are still a problem, but not as bad as they were. I've been recovering slowly. The 100th Issue will be launching on July 7th! If you're a patron on my Patreon then it will be on July 6th!

Going forward, the edition will be in .PDF format that you can download through my Patreon. As a sign of good faith, this edition will be free to ALL PATRONS! After that, only those in the Producer Tier will receive this perk. Supporter tier will still get Upcoming Composers, Research Papers, and now Upcoming on Featured Artists!

I will also be cleaning up a lot of the Playlists on The Tank Tribune. With the new Playlist features it is high time that is done.

It's been a couple of months. To make a long story short, I've been battling memory issues and have had some financial troubles as of late. Hospital bills will do that to you. I've been needing to focus more of my energy towards my day job to cover those bills. I've also been dealing with short term memory loss as of late. To where things have been, foggy. I'll be working on something and then within an hour or two I would have completely forgotten what I did. It's been a struggle, and things have been improving as of late. I've popped into the site to check in on the Treasure Hunt and see any new updates. That's been about it though.

Between working my day job and my memory, I've simply been trying to rest. Rest assured, my long term memory is still great, just the short term is what has been taking its toll. I hope to be back on Newgrounds here soon. I don't know when soon might be though.

Good Morning Newgrounds! Don’t panic by the title, this is just the last issue with only two digits, with next week being Issue NO. 100. That will be a grand time to celebrate. I remember back during The Interviewer when I hit the 100th Interview. Difference is that I had that planned out for a while, with a subsequent backup plan. PHP Update

Newgrounds works off of the LAMP architecture (Linux, Apache, MariaDB and PHP). The code has been updated due to depreciation. If you spot any bugs or having any trouble with parts of the site, update your findings in the thread or contact Tom. You can also look at Newgrounds Status Page to see how it’s running.

Sharing My Music and Sound Effects

Since 2016 @EricMatyas has been sharing music and sound effects with Newgrounds. He’s still sharing his works today for people to use in movies and games. With Flash Forward Jam underway, it might not be a bad idea to take a look. If you can donate to his works, he would surely appreciate it.

JOINING GUIDELINES

1. Everyone that wishes to join the collab MUST join the discord server linked right below.
2. You must talk with me, Charupopu, and send me a portfolio of your artwork to get either approved or disapproved. Being approved also gives you access to the server.
3. Once you get approved, You may choose the game you wish to draw art for in the spreadsheet. If a game is taken by someone else, find another.
4. Lastly, after choosing your game, record your artist name and your socials so I can give credit to your artwork properly.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

1. Keep the content of your art on the scale of E - M rated, meaning you can draw gore or suggestive topics in your submission. But no complete NSFW or else you will be disqualified.
2. Make sure your illustration is a saved as a PNG. imagine saving art as a jpeg lol.
3. Your art MUST be made on Digital.
4. NO AI and NO NFTs are allowed. If you insist on making with that shit, guess what happens next, you'll find out.
5. This one is needless to say but please don't be this lazy and reuse old art you already made.
6. Give your art a name as well.
7. You may publish your work in the discord server. But to keep things a surprise, don't share it outside the server until the full collab is done and published on Newgrounds.

Just an update where I have been.

@LordAndiso has been hard at work on a new album after recovering from appendix surgery. The album will be called Far Away. It focuses on being away from home and the feelings about it. The release date is looking to be in March.

Arsenal Online: 3 New Weapons!

@WilkinGames has released three new guns in the game Arsenal Online. The guns are R870 MCS, Signal .50, and Milkor MGL.

New old songs, and changes!

@Epifon311 has recently moved. The move has been in the process for two years, which is why they have been absent on Newgrounds. They have posted two songs. One that was previously on YouTube called Our Fire. The second song is a love song entitled Heartstruck. Check those out!

A Sine of Relief (Sine Wave Collab)

@Anonymous-Frog has shared a new music collaboration. The theme is making songs composing mostly of sine waves. A sine wave is this if you were curious. You can only use them in different pitches or subtle tones. Below is the guidelines for the collab. You can join the Discord here. Any questions you can message Anonymous-Frog here.

MAIN GUIDELINE

1. Main Rule: The majority of the song should largely consist of sine waves. Keep all other instruments to a minimum.

(some drums or harsher-toned instruments for example, can be used as a balance, or you could use nothing else)

Furthermore, the sines themselves can be modified in subtle ways (i.e. pitch reverb, distortion, filters, etc.)

2. Your song can otherwise be in any genre. Soft classical compositions, fast-paced techno, you name it!

3. I want to keep it E-Rated, so avoid explicit language/words.

4. Samples, synthesizers, VSTs, trackers, DAWs, Beepbox, etc., if it supports sine waves, you can use it.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• Submission Length: 1-8 minutes
• You can make as many submissions as you want, provided they all total 8 maximum.
• Submit a .WAV, .FLAC, or other high quality audio format (as long as it’s not crispy potato fries).
• Share the file or private download link in either my DMS or in the Discord.
• Deadline: May 1st

RELEASE GUIDELINES

You can publicly release your submission on Newgrounds provided you:

• Wait until the collab releases, or sometime around the deadline. Let me know beforehand. Any earlier and you may need official confirmation.
• Link to either the NGAP Collab Center or if applicable, the finished collab on NG (optional).

I increased my Spotify follower count by over 20% in a month by posting every day on TikTok. Here is what I learned.

@i9incher has been posting his works on TikTok and through that process has increased his followers on Spotify. With Universal Music Group pulling over 3 million songs from the platform, this is a chance for the small Indie artists and musicians to strike while the iron is hot. He has given a detailed analysis of his growth over the past month. He recommends this for musicians on Newgrounds looking to get their names and accounts out there. Last Thursday, @shock-value’s Interactive Buddy would celebrate 19 years on Newgrounds, and it is still a classic to this game. During the Assassin Era of Newgrounds, this was definitely a highlight on the site. A little buddy who you could play catch with, tickle, and jam to with a radio. You could also beat the crap out of him, and apply a skin to beat up celebrity figures of the time period. It serves as a time capsule and one of Newgrounds finest games!

“I really liked Nettle & Bone so I queued up the audiobook of another T.Kingfisher book to listen to with the wife in the car. We enjoyed it. There was some absurd humor in a 14-year-old baker being the last hope of a city about to be attacked by an invading army. Mona has to use her only magical skill she has, power over baked goods, to somehow save everyone she cares about.”

The week can get people down sometimes. With all of the hustle and bustle and action packed drama that entails our lives, sometimes it's nice to just kickback and relax. This week we’re looking at some flash games from 2006 to help celebrate the Flash Forward Jam!

Thank you to all of my readers. Last week I was not able to be on the site as much as I would have liked due to fighting a cold. I am hoping to keep The Tank Tribune at this pace, because March is going to be an incredibly busy month for me going forward. In the meantime, I will be keeping each issue up on Sundays and looking to fully revive my other projects.
