Flash Is Dying

Come December 2020 Flash will no longer be supported and discontinued on devices. From computers to cell phones to tablets. There has been a large part of the Internet whose legacy was Flash. Through animations, games, and even websites. Recently @Noodle on his YouTube Channel Two Left Thumbs made a video talking about the history of Flash and how it is being preserved. It is a long video, but I implore you to watch it.

There are multiple ways that Flash is being preserved. Newgrounds already has the Newgrounds Player in effect where certain Flash movies and games can be played in Newgrounds. There is work being done to convert multiple games and movies to proper formats through Ruffle. There is also Flashpoint where an archive is being built. We cannot let Flash die and you can help with the preservation of it moving forward by donating to Ruffle and help filling out the list on Flashpoint.

These are the people who make Newgrounds possible. Thank you!

SUPPORTER OF THE WEEK

@Noodle

As noted above, Noodle has become quite the cheerleader of Newgrounds and its history over on the YouTube side. The artist formerly known as Goat-Man is a wonderful collaborator in some of Newgrounds most memorable movies and games. He was also the mastermind behind the This Week on Newgrounds series, which the Tribune took direct inspiration from. He is an incredible talent here on the site and one who should be taken note of.

Video & Flash Updates, Among Us, Voting

If you missed the winners of the Among Us Jam you can go back and check it out! If you're in the mood for something to binge watch then check out all the entries in the Jam. There is information on how you can help Tom enable Ruffle on Flash Submissions. A lot of stuff doesn't require Flash since Newgrounds has constantly been moving forward, but for those that do still require Flash then let Tom know.

Tom is also looking for feedback on scores being visible for creators, registered users, and just visitors. Tell him your thoughts on the matter and why.

The Half-Life Collab

Today is the last day for the Half-Life Collab. If you don't have your entry in now is the time to do so. Contact @TerrorByte immediately.

Newgrounds Video Game Music Challenge

@Everratic is hosting a challenge where you create video game music based off of a list of challenges. You can work solo or collaborate. More details are in the thread about how this challenge works.

The week can get people down sometimes. With all of the hustle and bustle and action packed drama that entails our lives, sometimes it's nice to just kickback and relax. This week's console has games featured by @Rob1221.

There wasn't as much featured here as normal and this was done for two reasons. One I've been busy lately. I put too much on my plate, what else is new? Two, I wanted to focus mostly on the preservation of Flash with it being done away with next month. There is so much to do and so little time and you can be a huge help to that process. Without Flash a lot of sites would not be what they are, Newgrounds wouldn't be what it is today, and a lot of creators wouldn't be where they are today. We can preserve Flash. I've been trying to find different games and movies that are older throughout Newgrounds and put them in the Tribune so they can be looked back on and people can go "Oh yeah I remember that" or discover something old as something new for the first time. It is also why this week I am not featuring the wall or my Patreon. If you haven't, please support Newgrounds and/or Ruffle.

I'm still angry at Friday Night Funkin though because I can't get the music out of my head.

Oh sh*t! Thank you for @TheNewgroundsPodcast feature~!

I'm doing an Art Talks today at 2pm EST on the Discord, if anyone's interested! It'll have Sabtastic, her sister Purefey, and nikkinacks discussing freelance work~

That "Follow Count" endeavor was a big one, and it gained so much traction from the community that ultimately something so seemingly minor became a big deal lol. Kudos to that person!

The Haiku in today's issue is a powerful one.

I recently beat Big Tall Small by Rob, so it's cool being able to see his work neatly compiled here~

Keep up the good work TGO! We all put too much on our plates, but I'm always looking forward to whatever you have planned, and these issues do well to act as an archive, like you were saying. So much damn history in one place... Much love!

@SevenSeize4President Welcome to the real world, Seven

REAL ONES REMEMBER THIS WEEK ON NEWGROUNDS SHOUTOUTS NOODLE

Hey, thanks so much for sharing that video!
I had no idea this was inspired by TWoNG!? Honestly, it feels like a much more manageable, and comprehensive look at the site than I was ever able to achieve with that series. Congrats to you for keeping that spirit alive, and taking it further than I ever did!
I am so thrilled to have something like this to follow along with for any weeks where I feel out of the loop :)

Das me! I like this little tribune I will now follow it :))
Now lets go play Friday Night Funkin

Omg! Thank you so much for the mention! So glad somebody actually took the time to check my work or at least to read my words! So happy to see this! Thanks again! :)

20 years ago there were barely 100 flash animations on NG, every few months I'd start at submission #1 (Scrotum #1) and type ascending numbers into the address field till they were all looked at. Stopped doing that around 200 submissions, but did start an account here, felt like Tom was trustworthy enough not to sell off my email address for a few bucks.

Flash served it's purpose amazingly well, and now we move on, and use different platforms for creativity, 's all good

Thank you for having me in the music playlist :D
